@amanagarwal congrats on getting accepted to HKUST. I’m also planning to apply there but I want to know how long it takes to get the decision on whether you get accepted or not. When did you apply?

Edit: Sorry if that’s been stated somewhere else on this thread, I just don’t want to sift through 98 pages of this lol. Thanks.

@EliteGeek: I had applied on 24th December for early decisions. I had send my documents within a week or so. I had my phone interview on 4th Feb and i got my conditional letter on 12th Feb.

You should apply as ASAP as the deadline are close. If u apply now you can expect to get an interview around first week of April. I am not sure about that I may be wrong :P

Dexmax234: I received an email from them that your application has been accepted and my conditional letter is being posted by mail. As fas the the site is concerned they rarely update is as far as i know even if u have been accepted. Mine has not yet been updated.
I got attached copies of the letter by email and would soon receive the letter by post.

All: Will i get the university prospectus with my conditional letter and other arrival are pre- arrival, university brochure etc. details with my conditional letter or wen will i get it…??

michiganfall; dexmax; smartchap: HKUST is a 3 year college, for engineering courses, but they do make some students take a preparatory year at college before … not IB or AP students though… for me its a 3 yr college soo engineering course cant be a 4 yr course! its like Imperial…

dexmax: They havent updated my offer online till now too! They just sent me the thing in mail and email…

aman: I didnt get any brochure and prospectus with my admission offer letter, just 4 letters one for being accepted, one for scholarship, one welcome letter, and one other thing I dnt exactly remember what it ws…

michiganfall: I am an Indian living in China for 2 years now so I’m applying as an international student. Basically you apply depending on what passport you have, if you are from China and have an identity card that is chinese then you should apply as a china mainland applicant, if you have a Hk ID then apply as a Hk student otherwise as an International applicant…
My dad has a Hk ID but I dont so I dont qualify as a local applicant…

I am tired of waiting. Ive emailed HKUST to send me the decision quickly. Hope that works out. I dont want to give the admission tests for the local universities !

Anand: Thats great news man! Planning on visiting the campus before actually joining to have a better feel of it all, and plan accordingly ? Lemme knw…
So the course is 3 years just like Imperial, however, they do make some students take a preparatory year before beginning the 3 yrs course because they want them to be trained specifically, u knw like IB and AP might have the same course but different ways of teaching them to the students so I guess HKUST expects something specific…
Anyhow, they will tell you in advance if thy expect you to take the preparatory year or not… but it is always better to check online… But if they haven’t mentioned it to you so far, then I think they dont want you to take the preparatory year!
So how does it feel to finally have made your decision for University ?! :)

dexmax: Dont worry mate, just hang on for some more time, the decision will be out soon…

Lol,even I’m a wannabe engineer, but I’m still “just” tilting towards HKU…but, honestly,I don’t even know one percent of what you guys know about these 2 universities…

Haha. Don’t worry man. I don’t know a lot either. I guess we all have our own criteria for choosing. My suggestion is read around? I believe over the past 99 pages a lot has been said. Haha. shrugs
You got a call from both of them already?

smartchap & All: I’m sorry if I may have influenced people’s decisions but thats because I;m biased as HKUST is where I’m going, but of course that also means HKUST must be a great Uni for me to pick it!
I know a lot about them mainly because I had to do a lot of research before making my decision, I began initially in September with University rankings for US Unis and then moved on to the World, then finally made my own ranking system for the 22 shortlisted Universities, then further shortlisted 16 Universities and applied to all of them, and as per my Rankings HKUST was 1 and NUS rank 2… the flight costs and tuition fees and location (how happening the place is) costed the US Universities a lot of point in my rankings) :)

smartchap: Thats good to hear Its funny how I had no idea about things I would or even could do after Grade 10th like 2 years ago, and now its all soo clear, and that too soo quickly!

@sarthak-I do have plans but it would be premature to think about it now…
When are you headed to HK??Please let me know…
Yes I did check the course code online ,yes it is indeed 3 yrs…:)…
It feels good to have an offer in the bag…I am sure UST is a great place for an undergrad degree.
Still a bit concerned about the diversity though but I was assured that UST will take in excess of 100 intls this yr…Any idea when they will get in touch again regarding pre arrival,march-april???

And yes,you are extremely biased towards UST but that is understandable…lol…:D

Anand: I’m def going in April around the 18th of April, but thats for an International Badminton tournament so I dont think if I’ll have time to go see the Uni then… But if anything does comeup before/after that then i’ll def let u knw!
Yeah HKUST is def an amazing place for undergrad degree! And I dont knw about how many International students there are going to be there, but Hk is full of foreigners so theres gonna be plenty of exposure! But I’m not looking for exposure to a lot of different cultures cause I study in an International school with people from 40-45 different nationalities and cultures!! Everyone is surprised when I tell them this but in International Schools in China there are literally NO chinese/local students, cause its so expensive and they need govt permission to study in an International schools, so i’m looking forward to studying with more Chinese (mainland and Hk) students at Uni and get more info about their culture and practice my Mandarin more et cetera, for further reference when I have a job… But thats again thinking too far… lol
Yeah they said they’ll email me in March-April regarding what is t be done next and housing details … but they said not to worry about any of that, just get the marks indicated in the offer and everything else they’ll make sure is done as it is supposed to be done…
haha… yeah my bias is justified! and i’m biased to even consider it a bias anymore :P
