HKU or HKUST

Jiceo1: Its no problem communicating with people in Hong Kong, dont worry about that!
I’m sure they would like having you from a UC college, go ahead and apply…

Jiceo-go ahead and apply…I am sure they would love to have a student like you…
not sure about swire,I dont think it is for transfer students but i assume there are plenty of other scholarships for students like you…
Good luck

@sarthak-Mate,you have been awfully quite…:)…share some UST facts everyday…:D

Thanks you guys! But LOL, no need for flattering here
What is kind of stressful is having to contact ALL THREE of my high schools and asking them to send my transcripts over to HKUST…

jiceo1: Yeah I know, however, technically you could even get your transcripts from the admissions office in UCLA… I’m not sure on this one, but I think Universities keep a record of your admission application file, when you would have applied 2 years ago and so you could send HKUST the same Transcripts… That is if your high schools have lost your transcripts, or are being finicky …

Anand and ALL: Does anyone have any info on/about the “cosplay” at HKUST? I saw something about it online but didnt really understand what it was !! Looks really weird seeing college students dress up like that!!

GREAT NEWS for Future HKUSTians:

[The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology](HKUST)

The curriculum has been changed to make it more up to date and rounded!! I personally like it :)

Sarthak: I know that I can order UCLA’s transcript to be mailed to wherever I want, I just need to request online. But I don’t know if they are allowed to mail my high school transcripts, I’m pretty sure they won’t, either way, I’m just going to call all my high schools…

How many people here are going or considering going to HKUST/HKU that are from the US? What are your plans after graduation?
For example, I want to either pursue MS/PhD in the US or work in the US.
How hard is it to graduate straight from HKUST get employment in the US, in terms of HKUST’s reputation in the American industry?

Hey my fellow Hkustians
I finally announce that i have formally accepted the offer and paid the deposit XD XD  :D

@ All who are thinking abt hkust.
Hkust is an awsommmeee university. Their sports facilities are brilliant with indoor areas and out door areas. The life is vibrant. The rooms are tiny but who cares because in such a university you will be a stupid person if you just stay in your room :stuck_out_tongue:
THe education is amaaazinnnggggg. The labs are Woooohooooo. Engineering is awsum and very flexible as you get to choose between courses and electives. And to top it all the undergraduate research with such great faculty !!.

I would agree to Sarthak that the more I think about HKUST and research about it the more I want to just immediately go there.

It is a great university and all of you MUST apply !

@ hkustians ;)

People you have got to check their online portal facilities and the computerized chipped identity card   I understand a bit childish :stuck_out_tongue: but they did make me quite excited  :D

Um from Bangladesh appeared for Edexcel GCE AS level (Grade-11) in may 2009 with 4 subs and achieved around an average of 94% marks and will be sitting for A2 (grade 12) this june. I have some ECA’s too. Applied in HKU during late Jan and send my docs immediately. But still dint receive any confirmation of my documents or any sort of acceptance email. Dont knw wat to do bcoz its getting late and um really very tensed.

The application deadline for HKUST is till 31st march. Do I have a gud chance to get into HKUST wid a scholarship, if i apply now. I assume um a bit late with my application :-(

Can any 1 pls tell me, wat should i do now? How long do i have to wait? Damn its freaking me out :-(

@Muntasir-Hi,i applied to HKU too, they dont send any confirmation mail,…You can send an email regarding the same if you are worried…They will issue acceptance/offers starting only from april…with your results, you dont need get stressed at all…
You can still apply to HKUST…You aint late by any means…go ahead and apply …

Thanks a lot brother. U really did give me a hope. Nice to meet u. Btw r u a student of HKU?

@Muntasir: same here!! I was getting a bit worried too because I applied in the last few days ahead of the deadline. However, I have contacted them. Btw, which programme did you apply for?

jiceo1: Fair enough …
I’m not from US, but I’ll be doing my postgrad/(+PHD) from US, hopefully UCB, after undergrad from HKUST… Wanna eventually work anywhere that I haven’t already lived in :)

Dexmax: I know exactly what you are saying fellow HKUSTian ! They did make me very excited too !! And the housing isnt very tiny too, I think its as big as the ones in US, like Purdue is almost the same … and then considering the housing costs are like EXTREMELY HIGH in Hk, the cheap housing at HKUST is unbelievable !

Dexmax, Anand, Aman, rebecca, and Future HKUSTians: Once you have been accepted by HKUST, and have yourself accepted the offer and are now on the stage of planning your life at HKUST, then I think the next step should be to utilize the friends we have here on CC!! Imagine how easy it’ll be if you already 10-12 people in University on the first day itself ! And all of them from different programs, so you could ask for their help and advices at HKUST !!! Now I don’t know if theres a better way of doing this or not, but maybe we can email each other our names, courses and few other details like nationality et cetera… What say ?

I like the idea of getting to know each other. I don’t know, does every one have facebook? Maybe we could start a facebook group?

rebecca: That is probably the best thing to do! However, I live in China, and so do few others who will be going to HKUST, and so we can’t access facebook, as u knw facebook and youtube are blocked in China!!
Unless we come up with another better idea, I think we shuld start the facebook group and i’ll use a proxy to access the group and join it, might not be able to access facebook regularly though, as there are only 58 days left to my exams!

@Muntasir-No,i have applied to HKU and UST for fall 2010…I know a few people going to HKU ,hence the info…HKU releases offers starting from april…a long time to wait i guess…what is your first choice??

@Sarthak and Rebecca-I like the idea too…:D…starting a facebook group will be ideal…But since sarthak doesnt have access to FB in china,we might have to think of something else…

Google group?

And Anand, are you going to HKU or UST you think?

@everyone-I actually didnt see sarthaks previous post(around the same i guess)…
He can use a proxy to get on FB…so i guess an FB group will be the best…
what say??

@rebecca-most certainly UST,they seem to be heading in the right direction in Science and Tech…I applied to HKU too so just waiting to see if I am good enough for such a prestigious uni…did you apply to HKU too?? and did you get any aid from HKUST??..Heard from frnds that there is almost nil chances of useful aid from HKU …

Facebook group it is then. Anand, want to start it up?

ah well… wouldn’t mind but ill let you have the honours…
ladies first…:D

Okay. Facebook group created. It’s called “Future HKUST International Students”
