Hm, I need tips on overcoming procrastination.

I'm currently a 10th grader, and I've been having quite a bit of trouble overcoming that personal ailment known as procrastination. I'd say that I'm fairly advanced in terms of comparison to my classmates (My school only offers 3 honors classes in this grade... haha). Nonetheless, studying & homework have been completely put aside these past few months. For the first two quarters, my GPA has remained a solid 83... and it really frustrates me. With the New Year looming, it's brought about deep contemplation about how I can somehow overcome procrastination & become a diligent student once again. Any tips? If you've ever been in a similar situation (which is likely, heh), what was your solution? Did it work? I would really like to know... thanks.

Tell yourself not to eat until you finish your homeork.

Lol, kidding. Really: make lists, and cross things off as you finish them. This is helpful not only because you get to see how much you've done and how much you have left, but you can organize them however you want - hardest to easiest, by subject, etc - however it's easiest for you to operate.

what i do is make a schedule. and said above, you just cross off every item yopu did.. and if you didnt do it.. do it after you finish your schedule.. and dont lag

yup making a long detailed list is helpful. because you start to get frightened of the enormous list of things and you tend to hurry up and do them. (also good for studying for tests too).
Detailed as in - (example)
- memorise carbon cycle
- memorise nitrogen cycle
- memorise phosphate cycle
INSTEAD of, - memorise all the cycles

I actually put everything in random order and i pick out the things that's the easiest and fastest to accomplish. That way, I get to cross out things faster and i start to feel good because I dont have to see a long list of things one after the other.. weird i know..

also, putting yourslef in a situation where you are forced to study is great. Like the public library. At times i drove to the library, i ended up staying there for 40min because i had the freedom to drive somewhere else and eat or osmething.
So, go take the bus to the library, or ask your parents to drive you there. And only take enough money to buy coffee or tea or a drink or a snack or something, or you'll end up procrastinating in some shop nearby. Or better, take a flask of coffee and some food with you so you dont have to leave the library.
And stay away from the magazine section.. They used to take 2 hrs of my library time..
And try not to take your cellphone wit you.. Once I played chess on it for 40min.. If you dont take your cellphone, you wont be tempted to call your parents to pick you up or osmething.

and umm if you are a nail biter, cut down all your nails before you study, or you'll end up biting your nails for a very long time.

And make sure your mp3 is all charged up. And make sure you take enough stationary. Because if you do go home to get the stuff you forgot, you'll end up staying home for a long period of time..

like chenboi says, make a schedule. I like planning everything a week before things so i get to see how much crap i have to do everyday. That way, I cant say "oh well, i'll just do this tomorow, it's actually due 3 days away so no hurry.." (unless the next 3 days look empty)

sorry this is a bit long. I've had a lot of problems with procrastinating myself.. this is just my long experience..

hey kid,
welcome to high school. you ought to check out the procrastination station on the upenn thread. lol. hilarious. well, what i'd do if i were u is limit your internet usage, and instead, listen to music like what nofx said, internet can kill a lot of time. finally, dont' take it so harshly, it's something everyone goes through at some point in life. just be determined to not just do ur work, but do them well.

Yeah, I wouldn't even turn on the cmputer if i was prone to get distracted by it, and I would take whatever route through the house AWAY from the TV's or fridge or whatever else may take up my time. Or what you can do is pretend the due date is tomorrow or in two days, depending on how strong your will is haha.

I'd give advice, but I've been having a lot of trouble w/ that myself lately....

omygah i am total procrastinatorrr.

but like lots of ppl already said, make a schedule or list and actually FOLLOW IT.

i made one once. but i forgot to set times for lunch and dinner. so around lunchtime i broke it and decided "eh wut the heck since i broke it i'll just break my whole schedule". but yea DONT do what i did hahah

also if ur a computer addict like me DONT GET ON AIM!!!! i hate aim!!! but IM ADDICTED!!! step awayyyy from teh computer. study in a room with no computer. tahts what i did and actually works. or if u wanna go on AIM, sign on at like 4 AM when ev1 is sleeping and then u can be on AIM without having ppl chatting to u hahaha (personal experience)

or try to study in a library where you HAVE to study.

goood luckkk

make a schedule.

1.) math 3-4PM
2.) science 4-5PM
3.) english 5-6PM
4.) history 6-7PM

That's only an example. I know that if I'm not done, I have to move on to the next item, so I try to get everything done as soon as I can. It's best to work under pressure because you know that you HAVE to get it done.
