hmm...

hi, i wanna go into a biology-related field. heres my 'stats':

gpa 3.4(unwieghted).. dunno what it is weighted. but my schedule has been very rigorous.
SAT1- 800M, 740V
SAT2's- 800's in math2c, bio and chem. 790 in physics, 730 spanish.
AP: 5's in Calc, bio, chem, stats, and 4 in comp. sci.
ec's are around average. but i worked around 20 hrs/week in my uncle's microbiology lab, most of the time basically shoring up the database but i did get to participate in some research.

my guidance counselor has to deal with 400 other kids so i was pretty much alone throughout the whole application process. i applied to, in order of preference:

Princeton
Harvard
Yale
Johns Hopkins
UPenn
Cornell
Brown
U of Chicago
Haverford
Rutgers

Your UW GPA is pretty low for all of those except Rutgers. I'd say that the first five are reaches (unless your school is super-competitive and you have a very good class rank, in which case it's a crapshoot and you are likely to get into at least one, Hopkins in particular), Cornell is a match/reach, Haverford I know nothing about, and Chicago highly depends on your essays and recs. Rutgers is a safety.

thanks for replying. well, i go to what is prolly one of the best public schools in the country. all my classes have been honors or AP (except PE lol). and my unweighted gpa progression from freshman to junior year is 3.0-3.6-3.7. our school doesnt rank specifcally but i know that i'm in the 5-10% group. judging by your post, i also decided to apply to U of Rochester today, which would be a safety i wouldn't mind going to (i hope so atleast).

does that help or do i have no hope at all at some of those schools? also i was looking at tcci today and only one kid from my school has been rejected at Rutgers in the past three years, so i know i'll at least get in there lol.

Well, of course it helps. But HYP are reaches for anyone without fantastic ECs, Penn has also been very selective in recent years, and Brown isn't far behind HYP. Other than Haverford and Rutgers, I'd say you have the best shot at getting into JHU, Cornell, or Chicago (which, as I said, depends as much on your essays as anything else).
