Munro, a 6....... out of 5 for an overall score? Wha?

I haven't written a dbq before ..... how do you setup the paper?

A bit of sarcasm, sorry.

When you write a DBQ you want to structure your entire paper around a strong thesis. State your position in the thesis, don't restate the question, and spend the rest of your essay fortifying your position with examples from the documents. Use as many documents as possible, and insert outside information whenever appropriate. It is not enough to simply understand the documents and use them to support your argument... AP graders have increasingly shown a desire to see outside information, and, because more kids are taking the test, they can realistically increase their standards and keep the score distribution the same, more-or-less.

What if you don't have much outside information? Or limited...

Do your best. Same as always.

And no rambling on about stuff thats unrelated.
My teacher says the graders refer to it as 'fluff' and 'smoke' because its useless info that just makes your essay look longer (and they hate it).

Well, I think it's better to have something than nothing.

My teacher claims it's absolutely vital to have outside info on DBQs. (He's an AP grader, if that makes the claim more reliable.)

And it's also not advisable to BS anything you really don't know - keep in mind, the people who are grading are experts on the topic and will know BS and fluff from the real stuff.

But then again, it is better to have something than nothing in some cases. There are chances that BS will hit it right on the mark.

With that said, with all the crap I still can't remember about history, yeah, I'm def gonna have some bs in there. Creative writing time whooo... :(

if you're a good writer its very easy to bs on a lot of these essays. i remember ap euro test last year, i KNOW i did bad on the MC because on practice tests i would miss like 30+ questions and on the actual test i thought it was real hard, but i completely BSed all the essays and ended up with a 5, but i did think i made those essays sound real good.

jsut my two cents

I'm pretty sure on DBQs you have to have 50% fact and 50% from the documents.

I think tonight i'm going to do a bunch of muiltiple choice and read notes and go to bed at 11-ish. We have to be at school at 7:30 because someone is always always late and we end up having to call them.

I hate the early thing... We have to be there at 7.45 but the exam never starts until like 9...?? Argh.

I heard that if you write a good essay for DBQ with little or no outside info.. you'll never get higher than a 7 or 8 or something.

anyone has time to post their dbq up here? My class did several dbq but we just discussed and the teacher never grade it. I just want to know how a good dbq suppose to be like.

yeah my teacher is a essay grader too...he recommends writing an essay about the topic almost as if you had no docs, then using the docs as references and support for points you're already making (of couse, the points will have to deal with the documents, but yeah)...basically, do not base the whole essay on a document and NEVER summarize. take a strong stance in the thesis and write a decent essay and you'll be fine.

I knew NOTHING in AP World, BSed the essays (I'm a pretty good writer)...got a 5.

for the dbq, part of a good essay is that we have to analyze the docs. what does that mean? just say what the doc is saying about the topic?

yeah say what can be inferred from the doc and back it up with addt'l info...do this for @ least half of the docs and you're good

probably just finish reading the review book, review some stuff in the textbook, look at notes online and do practice mc questions

I think it would be a good strategy to remember all the presidents and the era or periods they were related to. It would help a lot if we refer to them and could be useful for mc questions as well

I'm gonna wing it

do we have to write the essay's in pen?
