You know you want to help me decide between Colgate University and Boston College! They are very different but i like both so whats your opinion?

Describe yourself first and what you want from a college or from life. That'll help with the decision you face.

Yes i suppose that would help! I am an athletic girl...basically the typical do everything person. I played tons of sports but also did mock trial and get good grades. I am fairly preppy (i'll admit it) i think both schools match all these qualities. I like the smallness of colgate and the location and the religion of BC (i am catholic and went to jesuit HS, which i really liked) i guess that about sums it up. Basically i am all over the place

Bc .

You'd be happy at either place. Tough choice.

Colgate is good for playing club sports. Also, a few years ago, Colgate got a new chaplain, who is fantastic. The Newman community is pretty strong at Colgate too.

BC--better overall reputation, more academic choices, great D-1 sports, great Boston location!! Boston Marathon's Heartbreak Hill is right at BC--they get Patriot's Day off in Massachussetts, and the Marathon is run on that day so all the students line the streets along the campus on Commonwealth Ave. and cheer on the runners!

"Better overall reputation"? With whom? I think BC has more of a regional reputation; Colgate more national.

If you can, go visit (or revisit) both schools and see which campus you like better. My son liked both these schools a lot - he got into BC EA and Colgate ED (obviously he preferred Colgate!)

When I was an undergrad at Michigan, I dated a PhD student who had done her undergraduate studies at Colgate and loved. She had an incredibly athletic body and was part of the track and field team at Colgate. She ran 5-7 miles each morning...outdoors and without fail! I would say that Colgate is fine for athletes. But do you prefer a rural environment or do you want a more urban locale?

Another vote for Colgate here, despite TMI from Alexandre <g></g>

Also, I know of a young woman who goes to a Catholic HS and decided not to go to BC after visiting, basically because she thought she'd already been there for four years.

Colgate has a much better academic reputation and stronger alumni network-50% for the 'Gate vs 25% for BC. Boston College benefits fromits location as BU and Northeastern do, but until the 1980's BC was mostly a commuter school.

As people say about Tufts, if it wasn't in Boston, it'd be Lehigh. You can look at the two schools this way regarding their locations: if BC wasn't in Boston, it'd be Villanova. And if Colgate wasn't in Hamilton, NY, it'd be Yale (undergraduate only - and by half). But they are where they are and benefit accordingly.

Thanks for all this imput you guys! Well just so you all know i am going to go to colgate. After visiting both campuses i felt like colgate had more fun and the people were a little friendlier...must of this is probably due to the smaller size which in the end has made me want to go to colgate next year!

BC's loss is Colgate's gain. Great choice. You'll have a terrific four years! (Of course you probably would've had it anyway, no matter where you enrolled.)
