Hmmm you need calc to get into Wharton?

I was unaware that calculus was a prerequisite for Wharton until an admissions officer called and told me I will need to take it in order to get in. I thought it would just hurt my app. Ooops lol

Someone called you about it? Please explain...

I think that means they really want the OP. He may have to take Calc over the summer at CC.

O well I applied ED and an admissions officer called me and said they were interested but that I need to sign up for a calc class at a community college or matriculate into Wharton from the college.

good thing I'm taking Calc AB and BC (dont really understand it, but I'm taking it :D)

does that mean ur probably accepted?

When did they call you and what are you stats?

My stats aren't anything special in terms of sat. I got a 1910 on reasoning and 660 math subject two with a 710 on history. But of course thats not all they go on so hopefully I can get in.

troll? /* asdfaasdf */

Did they call you recently?

umm yea late last week, I'm supposed to call them back actually

I know plenty of people who didn't have Calc when they went to penn in september

Are you a minority or recruit or legacy?

It is definitely not a prerequisite.

troll>_<

...........

I didn't think it was a prereq either until they called me.

its not a prereq, its kind of expected. kinda like NHS and stuff....u don't have to have that, but colleges will wonder why u didnt join when everyone else did.

likewise, why did u not take calc when it was offered and critical for success at Penn? (well at Wharton atleast)

Well I didn't know I wanted to go to Wharton until this year after it was to late for me to take calc. But I can just go to a community college so it shouldn't be much trouble.

I didn't take Calc because the teacher at my school who teaches it is psychotic and i plan on taking it at a CC this summer. However I did not indicate this on my application since I didn't know that it was an unofficial pre-requisite. When I read this however (several weeks ago), I called them and told them of my intent to take it at a CC. They basically said that since it's not officially in my transcript that they cannot honor it in the application process, but maybe they made a note of it or something anyway? I hope, because it would be extremely frustrating to be rejected/deferred based on a pre-req we weren't even told is a pre-req.

i didnt even bother writing that I was in NHS. Everyone is in it and at my school, we never do anything. I thought it was a better use of space to explain a club that I had leadership in and that I was really devoted to and had an impact on the community.

Calc is not required for Wharton or SEAS because Penn knows that not everyone will be able to take those classes for whatever reason. However, if you have the option to take Calc, it is almost required, or you will be at a huge disadvantage (especially with 9th graders taking BC). There are ways to overcome this (the easiest would be to buy Penn a new library) but it is not smart to start out behind all of the other applicants. Also, it is not really a pre-req, but when applying to a really really really selective college, it is recommeded (a lot) to take the hardest schedual available, and most times, that will include taking Calc.
