I'm a junior and very confused, what do I need to work on?

* SAT I : 680 M 680 CR 630 W (1990, definitely taking at least two more times to raise everything, especially writing..this was my first time taking it)
* ACT:
* SAT II: Taking US history, English and possible Math 2, I'm unsure
* Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.5, this is a major weakness
* Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): no rank
* AP (place score in parenthesis): Taking US History I and II and English 3
* IB (place score in parenthesis):
* Senior Year Course Load: AP Statistics (I'm taking regular calc this year) AP Econ micro/macro, AP Spanish 5, AP English 4, AP Biology, Orchestra, Entrepreneurship
* Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): I don't really know yet
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): 9 years of violin lessons, Horseback riding (hopefully stable A level) Winter Track (varsity) School Orchestra (Concertmaster 2 years) NJIO community orchestra, School Musical play pit orchestra, YMCA Leaders Club, School Rotary Interact Club (executive board)
Job/Work Experience: Hopefully I get the job this summer as a Girl Scout camp counselor, I have a lifeguard/cpr/aed certification
Volunteer/Community service: I've helped slightly for my church, in addition with my church I went on a week long mission trip to build/repair houses, and many hours with Interact and YMCA club- various events such as town clean up day, foodbank, etc.
Summer Activities: Brown Summer Program, RISE (house repair trip) and hopefully the girl scout camp counselor
Essays: no idea yet
Teacher Recommendations: I'm have a pretty noticeable personality, I'm thinking of asking my APUSH I teacher who plays flute with me in the musical pit orchestra
Counselor Rec: no idea, we have to fill out a sheet or something
State (if domestic applicant): NJ
School Type: pretty competitive i'd say, this year many seniors going to ivies
Ethnicity: white
Gender: female
Income Bracket: ~$100,000-$140,000 (my parents wont tell me haha)
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):

I want to apply to Brown ED, especially after the summer program there, do I have a shot? What do I need to do to increase my chance there?

Also looking at: I'm thinking about an advertising/marketing major
BC
BU
U Mich
Georgetown
NYU
UC Berkeley
UCLA
Northwestern
Northeastern
U Maryland- college park
William and Mary
Carnegie Mellon
The College of New Jersey (it's pretty small if anyone has heard of it)
U Conn

GPA. Make straight A’s from now until the time you apply and mention in your essays how you had a a massive motivational boosts because of xyz, and that caused you to excel at your studies.

I would call them all varying degrees of reaches except Boston University, UConn, and Northeastern (possibly - their admissions process gets mixed reviews). I don’t know anything about the College of NJ.

Your ECs are definately your strong point. Your course load is too, assuming that your past courses have been just as challenging as your tentative senior ones.

Your GPA, as you’ve mentioned, might hurt you. However, if you’ve taken challenging courses and generally have all As and Bs, it might not be as bad as it seems :)

If I were you I would work on bringing the SAT score up because that’s something you can change. Also study hard for the SAT IIs. Good scores probably won’t completely make up for poor grades but they can’t hurt.

I don’t know too much about the schools on your list with the exception of Northwestern and U Mich. I’d say, as of now, Northwestern is a reach and Brown probably is too. You have a solid chance at UMich. But really, take everything I say with a grain of salt because college admissions really are unpredictable at times. I know people with a 3.4 that have gotten into Michigan, and people with a 4.0 that got deferred. Weird, i know.

Finish out your junior year as strong as you can and try to get CR and Math SATs above 700.
get 650’s or more on your SAT II’s. Turn in a stellar performance the first half of your senior year. With a some good recommendations you will have a reasonable chance at all the schools on your list except Gtown, Nwestern, and W&M. These would be very high reaches unless you are in the top 10% of your class.

Hoho, looks like I’ve found a twin-like thing here :x. Well, we jump a blind ship then, its likely we either have the same schools because of stats, or completely different if you consider geography and ethnicity.

wow, thanks everyone! It is pretty calming knowing that you guys are saying relatively the same thing the earlier posts had me scared

on practice tests, I had been getting 700s, I guess just the pressure of the REAL SAT made me more nervous, my goal is a 2100 (we’ll see how that goes)

also, I think because I put Brown at the top and not on the list, a few people didn’t see it…I know it’s the hardest one to get into in my list, but I’m hoping I’m showing interest by taking a summer program, and if I apply ED
