I really want this award. Any suggestions/help? Tell me about this award . . .

Harvard alumni committees in particular local areas (not everywhere) give it out. I THINK that is based on school recommendations of students, but I'll defer to a Harvard alumnus for that detail. There is no indication that getting the Harvard book award means you're more likely to get into Harvard, but it does get you a book.

Yes, it is donated by the local alumni, and the school decides who gets it at the end of every junior year, and seems to be primarily for harvard PR. It does not in any way correlate with getting in. (I'm not an alum, but am familiar with the drill at my daughter's school, which is one of the participating schools.)

Given it is an award in the smallest context (ie: in the hierarchy of school/region/state/national/international awards, it is at the lowest level) I wouldn't worry at all about this award. (And if you're a senior, given it is awarded end of jr year, it's too late to worry about it anyway!) My daughter who is applying this year got it a few months ago, and I am quite certain it will count for very little in admissions!

It won't mean much in terms of helping with admissions.

ok then. Thanks for your help.

I got the award - still not sure how. No one really explained it to me. I don't think it'll help with admissions, though.

Atom,

Are you ranking 1 or 2 in your class? Many schools use ranks for book awards.
