Hobart and William Smith

D is very inerested in the college (more specifically, thier Media and Society program, their LOTE program and their Puclic Policy Program). Any comments from current students? Parents?

A good friend of my D1 (college freshman) is at HWS and LOVES it - she and her parents think it’s a great school and she truly seems to be enjoying it. I have heard great things.

It is a beautiful school. We checked the course catalog to see the range of topics covered in D’s area of interest, then the number of PhDs vs lecturers or part-timers, then looked at faculty bios, to see where they had studied and what their particular interests are. In my D’s field, it was quite impressive. You can also check internship and research opps.

I know quite a few people who have graduated from HWS. I have only heard one negagtive thing from one kid’s mom - that it’s too small for her so she is transferring to NYU.

My son is going next week for a revisit and interview.

emilybee,
are the graduates that you know doing what they’d like to be doing? did they find that the school had a fairly good reputation in the professional world?

HulbertL - yes. Several work for my husband (he is a director of a state agency.) They all have Masters degrees from top schools (several from Maxwell at SU the #1 school for PA)

Several of my friend’s kids also. I don’t know off hand what they are doing now but I haven’t heard of any who had to come back home and live in their parents basements.

We did a drive through tour and the campus was lovely (although not as pretty as the brochures they sent - often! - made it seem). The town itself is not a “destination,” but my understanding is that the college does a lot of on-campus programming.

I had a HWS student taking a summer class at my school because it was close to home, and he seemed well-prepared and articulate. FWIW.
