Hobart Pros and Cons

What are some of the pros and cons of attending Hobart?

Pro: Essentially no general education requirements, which means freedom to choose your own academic path. Classes are small, of course, and professors are truly willing to go out of their way for you.
Con: I didn't think that I would say this, but I despise the weather. The default weather is either rain or snow, and it truly plays with my mood. Additionally, sometimes I feel like everyone has the same collective personality. It took me longer than I would have liked to find a group of people.

This place has amazing potential, amazing opportunities for people seriously willing to make it work. Because HWS is still kept a secret, I have grown as a student and have been given many options that I wouldn't have had if I went to some of the more well known liberal arts schools on my list.

Telephones - I looked your old posts up and noticed you received the arts scholarship. Are you studying art at HWS? Anything you can tell us about the programs? DD is interested in Art and Art History. We visited today and were very impressed.

I am actually in an intro Art History class now and adore it. I have decided to declare a minor because of my positive experience, and how it intrinsically relates to Literature, my major. I really like my professor (she‘s great in office hours especially), and look forward to my two art history classes next semester.

I received the Arts Scholarship in creative writing, but arts in general have become more of a central feature to campus since I have been here. Next Thursday, the literary magazine and other groups on campus are sponsoring an event called Articulation, where student art will be exhibited along with the release of the magazine.

I wrote an article for the school newspaper on the Faculty Art show back at the start of first semester. In brief interviews and emails, I learned a lot about their insight. From Fulbright work to sabbatical inspirations of South Korea, I can assure you that my brief exposure was positive and interesting.

I’m sure you already know about the renovated art buildings and the study abroad programs to France and Rome.

Thanks for the info. As I mentioned, we were impressed with campus and art buildings. I'm pretty sure daughter will be applying in the fall...
