Hobby versus extra-curricular?

It is obvious that one should include clubs or organizations in their application, but what about activities that a student just enjoys?

I'm considering listing some of my hobbies to give my application some variety, but I'm not sure if that's appropriate. I would like to include vegan baking and cooking, because that's an important hobby and nearly an art that I participate in. I'd say I do it at least five hours a week, and I've baked for parties and other events. Should I put this on my app?

This same question could apply to people who enjoy recreational outdoor activities, writing, etc. Clearly there is a distinction between hobbies such as watching tv and hobbies such as film-making, but at what point should one consider putting it on an application? I feel like even though it is an activity without leadership, competition, etc., it has value in showing more about an applicant.

On the other hand, perhaps such quirks should be saved for essays.

Opinions? What activities should go on the app?

BUMP i would like to know about this too

I think as long as it’s done out of school and is something productive that you enjoy doing, then you should put it. It doesn’t have to be a school-sponsored activity
