<p>Has anyone ever been a HOBY Ambassador? I chose got chosen from my sophomore class to do it and I want to know what exactly students go through there!</p>

Prepare yourself for a strained throat and a sleepless weekend. Seriously though, HOBY is a great program--I attended last year (NJ). GET THE CONTACT INFORMATION FROM YOUR PANEL SPEAKERS; they can help you loads in terms of networking. Congrats!</p>
<p>The guaranteed acceptance date for HOBY has passed but I still really want to go even though my school has picked 1 person and 1 alternate. Should I ask my school if I can go? The HOBY website says additional students can go but the school has to pay for it.<br>
But I could offer to pay it myself and be able to go, right?</p>
<p>I've already asked if I could do it though and they said they'd get back to me, so I don't know if it would make me look rude/stubborn if I asked again...</p>

<p>My oldest d was the HOBY ambassador from her school 4 years ago. She enjoyed attending, and completed 100 hours of community service the following year. However, she did not remain active in HOBY itself. Fun experience; she definitely used it on her college applications in the leadership section. She would have done the volunteering anyway, but HOBY gave her a place to submit those hours for the Presidential Volunteer Award (or something along those lines - don't remember exactly what it was called).</p>
<p>HOBY is amazing!! I went to the international one (WLC) in addition to the local seminar, and it was no doubt the best week of my life. You will have so much fun and meet amazing people! Congrats!</p>
