I was just wondering how extensive HOBY involvement would play into an admissions decision. I was selected as the state representative from Mississippi to the World Leadership Congress, and now I have a host of volunteer opportunities available to me. Would continued involvement with the HOBY organization and the fact that I was selected to represent MS on the national level help my chances? Also, my community has very few service organizations for youth, so I am planning to use some info HOBY has provided me with to start some. I assume this can only help. Thanks.

I'm not really sure how much it plays into the admissions process but if you do get in, you won't be the only OUTSTANDING HOBY alumni there. Congratulations on going to the world conference. Definately mention it on your application. It sounds like you are really passionate about HOBY so let that show through. Passion and reflection are always good things. Other than that Good Luck with everything and don't ever put off filling out your applications until the last minute. You'll save so much money on express postage. : )

how do u get involved in World Leadership Congress?

First you must be selected as a sophomore to represent your high school at your state's HOBY conference (ask your guidance counselor about how your school chooses its representative). A boy and a girl from this conference are voted as outstanding leaders and go to HOBY World all fees paid. Any other attendees can go but have to pay their own way (apprx $1200) But it all starts as a sophomore from your school.

darn....im going to be a junior. Oh well
