Several questions about this scholarship. First, will notifications of winning this be announced in admissions letters or at some other time. Second, to anyone who is a recipient or knows one, what are the usually criteria for being awarded this. Is there any way to increase chances of receiving this award

Just as a note, I am fully aware how highly selective the scholarship is; when I inquired about it at a meeting I was told it is not usually brought up because so few students are awarded it. Still, one can hope.

Thanks in advance.

Dear LOLProudPtricia9,

Nice username. I am a Hodson and will be reviewing Hodson applicants from the 2014 fall applicant pool. The Hodson Trust Scholarship is a $122,000 merit scholarship awarded to 20 students from a pool of 16,000 applicants for “academic and personal achievement, leadership and contribution.” Whether it’s starting a successful company or breaking a world record, you need to set yourself apart from an excellent pool.

Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor.

My kid was a Hodson. It came as part of the admission package. Of course TripleE must know more about it than I do, but I thought they offered it to about 40ppl, anticipating about 20 will accept. But that’s from old memory.

One of the Admissions officers described the award as ‘the best of the best’, and the half dozen or so Hodsons I met all ‘stood out’ somehow. It’s not about being the president of the school MUN, its about doing something that not another 400 applicants have done. A near-olympic athelete, a food bank starter inner city, a business owner and a kid that had been published in local papers…cool stand out stuff. Have a look at the "Official ED " thread, and look at all those kids had to offer the school, and keep in mind a few thousand other kids offer the same thing.

Also…It seemed to me like the typical Hodson was upper middle class and would not quailify for other need based awards, but this might be based on the few that I met.
