My son got accepted to Hofstra 8yr and UMKC 6yr. Hofstra has MCAT requirement and UMKC does not. Any guidance on which one to choose?
Both are great programs - I think it comes down to your son’s personal fit at either school, his overall goals, and the financial aid available at both schools. If he wants to absolutely finish as quickly as possible, UMKC is the way to go. That being said, UMKC is considered a pretty grueling program considered to most other programs.
In addition, even though they don’t have an MCAT requirement, 20-25% of students don’t make it all the way through the program (http://www.umkc.edu/provost/student-retention/retreat/som.ppt) - the data are several years old, so you could ask UMKC if they have updated information. The MCAT 80th percentile requirement at Hofstra is in line with most other BA/MD programs and is very achievable.
With regards to the residency match list, both are fairly comparable:

Ultimately I think 50% would choose Hofstra and 50% would choose UMKC as there are reasons for both - but talking to current students at both places will give you/your son a better sense of where to go!
