I'm a senior and I already applied to 7 schools and got into 4. However, I was looking at Hofstra, because my friend with similar stats got into their honors program with merit money. So here come the questions:

How is Hofstra's business program?

Do they use the writing section for admissions or scholarships?

haha... I got into Bentley, Babson, Rutgers, and Ramapo but I'd like another option just in case. Bentley offered me 1/3 tuition, but it's still going to be 30,000 a yr, and Ramapo offered me 2,000.

I heard that rutgers isn't really expensive... and whatever it may be, it's a lot better than Hofstra. I think I've herad of Ramapo, but I don't really know anything about it, um... Bentley could be good but they sound expensive... What about Babson?

Did you look at the SUNY's? You should look at SUNY Binghamton, Geneseo, and even though it's not that great, even SUNY Purchase. What about Hunter? I know that's not so great, either, but it's better than Hofstra, isn't it?

Babson is just expensive as Bentley and my financial aid package sucked. I also applied to The College of New Jersey, Penn State-University Park, and University of Florida. PSU sent me a University Park rejection and asked me to pick 2 other campuses.

Other than Rutgers being 10 minutes from my house, I don't have a problem with it. Rutgers is a good school with a great reputation. I definitely wouldn't mind going there. Like I said, I just want to have options.

Rutgers is fine for some people, but a lot of other people have issues with it. Like they go and then they regret wasting their college experience on it for the next 20 years of their life or wtvr. Just... be careful.

And don't you want to leave your house for college? It's part of the experience!

If you get in, University of Florida could be fun, look at University of Maryland, and... look at the SUNY's. That's my advice, anyway. Good luck!

Hofstra is really a better school than it used to be and its business program is pretty good. Don't underestimate it. Here is the thing about Hofstra. They offer merit aid with a climbing gpa required to keep it. Something like a 3.0,3.1 and 3.2 by the 3rd semester. If you lose the merit award the school becomes very expensive, and their financial aid packages IMO are poor. I would really look into Ramapo since it is a smaller state school than Rutgers. It sounds like you want business, so how tough is it to get into Rutger's business school? That is a key question. As far as national reputation Rutgers cannot be beat as an instate student. Another question to ask is if you mind sitting with 300 kids in the intro classes at Rutgers b/c it is bound to happen. Oh, as far as Hofstra's honor's program, last year the freshman honors program was really geared to the person interested in humanities.

Even though Rutgers is right around the block, I'm definitely dorming there. The only thing I don't like about Rutgers is that it's really spread out, and you can't apply to thier business school until your junior year. But I'm pretty sure all you need is a 3.0 to get into the business school, which shouldn't be too hard. It doesn't matter how many people are in my class as long as I'm getting a quality education. Thanks for the info on Hofstra. It was a last minute idea, but I think I'm just going to stick with what I have.

Contrary to PurpoisePay's comments, Hofstra is NOT a bad school and adverts in the subway are certainly no way to make a judgement (NYU and Columbia have some sketchy marketing channel too, but that does make THEM bad). Hofstra is clearly a place on the rise from a lesser place. THe applicant pool has been improving dramatically and the faculty stronger and stronger. They have been somewhat successful using merit awards aggressively to attract higher quality students and this has made a difference in the last 2-3 years. The business school, pre-law and communications programs are especially good; the honors program is what you make of it. I would not discount it because of PurpoisePal's unsupported bias; you might actually find it to your liking once you are admitted and have a chance to visit under a different light.

I plan on majoring in accounting. I only really looked at Hofstra because of their merit aid. Thanks for all the help, but I think I'm just going to stick with the 7 colleges I applied to. I already got into 6, and I'm having a hard enough time to trying to decide without adding another one. But once again, thanks for all the help.

hofstra= i could take 2 short public bus rides/30 minute drive/2 hour bike ride(i dont kno ne one who would tho) to get to this last resort...its ok but not for me..

lol yeah... i realize that now after being on here. Plus, Penn State was able to give me summer session for University Park and I got accepted to University of Florida. Even with merit aid, Rutgers, Ramapo, and UF would most likely be cheaper than Hofstra and I'd probably get a way better education.
