HOFSTRA vs BARUCH

well these are the choices, I willbe studying Finance or Marketing.

BARUCH COLLEGE (CUNY)
Tuition: $4000 +$3000 for communiting so $7000 total
Comments: I love the campus, the community, the fact it's in the city, but I hate the commute (1.5 hours to get there and another 1.5 to come back!)

HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY
Tuition: $27900 -$13500 scholarship so $14400 total
Comments: Campus is 5 minutes from my house so no long commute everyday, but I like baruch's campus and community more =/

I plan on doing a BBA in Finance or Marketing, there's a big difference in the price and commute. Which would you suggest me going to? I really don't know how those business programs rank against each other either but I have a feeling Baruch is better

Baruch is definitely better for Business. Really, it's what Baruch's known for.

You can spend your commute studying. I think Baruch is the choice on this one. Based on price and reputation, Baruch is the winner here. You also seem to like the school better. If you find yourself miserable at Hofstra, you would regret it on many levels whereas that wouldn't be the case at Baruch.

Baruch in my opinion would be the better choice for you but it seems like you cant stand the commute. Since you already have a huge commuting cost is it possible for you to find a roommate and rent a cheap place it would not be that much more and probably still less than hofstra but you wouldn't have the hour and half commute.

baruch, i think hofstra is extremely overrated.

I lived in Long Island ( Baldwin) and attended Hofstra in the summer for some programs and graduated from Baruch. Let me share my experience.

First I liked Hofstra. I really did. There wasn't a long commute and the teachers were very good.

I never felt, however, that commuting to Baruch was a chore. I took the LIRR each day and met very interesting folks. I even found a group that I played bridge with. We commuted to Penn Station and I walked to Baruch which was another 25 min or so. The walk gave me great exercise, and Manhattan is a hoot to walk around in.

Also, the tuition differential can't be beat. Saving $15,000 PLUS cost of living increases is fabulous. Baruch is also very good for business. It is much better than many people on CC realize for a number of reasons such as having a HUGE alumni base that helps out their grads. Take Baruch!
