How hard is it to get into Hofstra? And what is Hofstra like once you are there?

I want to know the same thing…

See for yourself:
https://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg01_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=418

I cannot help you on your second question. I personally am in love with the school

@useraverage - I keep seeing negative things posted about Hofstra by students…especially on students review. Can you tell me if these things are true (lack of maintenance, poor teaching, students like “jersey shore” cast, etc)? Also, could you share what you love about the school? Being that my daughter is from AZ and not from the East Coast, she would want want some diversity so that she doesn’t feel like she doesn’t fit in.

Also, do you know anything about the Writing and Theater programs?

TIA

There are some good things about Hof and some bad things as will happen in many places.
The good: 1) there’s all kinds of people here so you’ll meet anyone and everyone 2) it’s near NYC, but not toooo close which can be good or bad 3) decent food(this sounds dumb but is KEY in college)
The Bad: 1) the school has a businessy feel, the way they market themselves is superb(im marketing maj I’d know) they make it seem like it’s the best place ever and you’re their new prodigy, as soon as you fork over the $$ you’re in the dark kinda
2) the profs are very educated and bright, but this can lead to a pompous-******y attitude
3) some of the dorms are in slight disrepair, but really it’s college so just deal with it and move on.
I went alittle detailed on the bad, but it helps decisions. I’m glad I came here and if you can deal with the small things you’ll have a good time.

Getting into Hofstra shouldnt’ be too difficult, but it definitely has its challenges.

If you have a B+ or better average, decent SAT score and Ok extra curricular activities should be enough.

Once you get in though, it’s amazing.

Beautiful campus, small classes, great, high-class feeling and nice sorrounding and food.

If you’re worried about the reputation, just get a 3.6 the first semester and you’ll be placed in their Honors college which is on par with NYU.

If you do well in Hofstra, you should get in any grad school.

A 3.5+ GPA at Hofstra and good test scores you can get into Ivy League grad schools.
