holding off on a transfer acceptance: possible?

probably my stupidest question.... one can't apply to a school as a transfer, get accepted, and then ask to have their spot held for another year right? I know people do this when applying as freshmen for travel reasons and whatnot, but can this be done as a transfer (for financial reasons)?

i'm a freshman at suny binghamton and would like to transfer to NYU. I was planning on applying for junior year to save a year's worth of tuition, but would it make any sense to apply now (app. due 4/1). Basically, if accepted, I could go for sophomore year only if i received a nice amount of financial aid, which is doubtful. Does it make more sense to just wait another year and THEN apply?

interesting question... since i'm not very sure how to answer this, I would still like to hear others' input for an answer.

Some schools will let transfers take up to 2 years 'off' until they enroll at where they were accepted. I'm not sure about NYU, but if it doesn't say on their website, email them.

my counselor suggested i do that for USC my freshman year of college. i never applied though because i switched majors from business to econ and decided to try out the UC system.

aw nevermind. Thanks for your help everyone, but the financial aid application was due february 15th.
