Holiday shopping 2022

We always order LL Bean wreaths for for in-laws (and grandparents when they were still with us). A nice decoration but not “stuff” which my in-laws don’t want to accumulate.

That is a nice looking one.
That might be a good idea for my son.
I already got his presents, but I’m going to mention it to his wife. (The loopy one won’t work for him though, bc he has 2 cats and they’d just make a mess of it).

Question for weighed blanket owners: how do you wash yours? We have a heavy duty washer that easily tackles king size blankets, but I don’t think it can handle a large 15 pound item.

I specifically got one that unzips and the cover is washable

We had no issue washing and drying our Bearaby in our front loading Speed Queen washer and dryer. However it took over 4 hrs (on low temp) to dry it, as recommended.

I just thought of a gift idea for Dh, who is difficult to buy for. We’ve been traveling to our son’s games this year, sometimes flying. Twice we have had to buy a styrofoam cooler when we arrived for keeping drinks cold while tailgating. Hated doing that for one time use.

Though we have several small soft sided coolers at home, none are collapsible that could be packed in a suitcase. Anyone have a tried and true collapsible cooler to recommend? A quick google search brings up several options on Amazon, but thought I would query here before randomly buying one on Amazon.

I started this thread by saying I’d ordered a t-shirt quilt (actually hockey jerseys) for my daughter. Finished product came today. Not too bad. Not as thick (backing) as I expected but okay for a couch throw.

One gift down, many more to go…

Maybe you could go with something like this, used it as the under-seat personal item (with other stuff inside).

This is what I use on flying trips, but it’s not very sturdy.

Big kid has a Yeti mentioned here. It is $$$$$ though but tough as nails and keeps cold items cold for a long time.

I saw a flight attendant make a smoothie on the plane in a portable cordless blender. I asked her what it was, and she raved about her Blendjet. I have ordered one from Macy’s to test. Will buy as a gift to kids who like to travel - if it passes my test.

My daughter has used this mini blender for many years now. Was great when she was in a small dorm room. (It does have a cord).

I have a question for any of you that have a son in college at a upper mid-west school, or anyone who lives in that climate. My son just started a grad program at a school with a reputation of harsh winter weather. I want to get him some winter boots for Christmas. What do guys wear walking around campus after snow fall? Should I be looking for boots just above the ankle or is it best to go with mid-calf? Any recommendations on style or brands would be appreciated.

My husband will only wear waterproof hiking shoes in the winter. Same with my son. Keep the feet dry.

@csfmap my SIL wears Sorel boots in the winter. Also the classic L L Bean boots are popular.

He is not a boot person. Doesn’t like anything around his ankles.

We get snow. We don’t usually need shoes that go through drifts but walking sidewalks. Or wet streets.

I wouldn’t expect the high boots to be as useful as the ankle high ones, or just some waterproof shoes like @deb922 linked.
