At this point I just really wish H would give me some ideas of what he wants.
Mr. B and I had a brainstorming session trying to figure out what to give to our adult children and their spouses who seem to have everything. We gave up. Decided we would give them Bombas socks and just write $$ checks to spend those $$ as they wish. The grands are getting toys and cute clothes I already bought.
That sounds almost identical to what we are doing for the kids and GD.
Guess D1 and I are going to make a mall trip today. Wish me luck!
I just bought a box of 8 mini squishmallows. I plan to give one per nibling and grand nibling with a nice check for their Christmas gift. Its just too hard to choose for little ones.
I don’t give my adult kids money for Christmas but I have given gift cards. I do try to keep it fairly even. I am done with older son and his wife . Some Blue Crab Bay Co. bloody Mary mix , also some of their nicely packaged dip mixes, a Mike’s Hot honey gift tote ,Bonne Maman Made for You gift box as well as their Caramel spread gift box, some French cookies and will get them a $100 gift certificate to a popular restaurant in the neighborhood they just bought a home in. I usually only spend about $100-$150 per person with my immediate family, including my sister. I only spend about $50 a family for my husband’s siblings but they’ll never know!
I still need to come up with a couple more ideas for my younger son but I’ll try to get a couple of requests/ideas from him when he gets back from his Thanksgiving trip.
I am about to purchase a Pixel. The combination of discounted price + much larger payment for trade in than actual value (arbitrage situation) makes it an especially good deal. If anyone else bought one this Black Friday and has a superfan promo code, feel free to PM me.
I did local small business Saturday shopping today and got all of my stocking stuffers and a few gifts too. Our small town has a wealth of smaller businesses, and they banded together very well for today.
I received the promo code, so net is 93% discount (prior to tax, inflation, and other adjustments), as summarized below.
$450 Sticker Price: New Pixel
+ $80 Old Used Phone
- $250 Trade In Credit Old Phone
- $150 Black Friday Discount
- $100 Store Credit
================
$30
I am very relieved that husband’s two siblings wanted to move toward family gifts years ago and all prefer food type things at this point. Everybody has more “things” than they need already. So, about $50 or so (all could do more but grateful we all keep it simple-never any hard and fast spending limit but it’s a frugal bunch-including us). So , it has morphed into mostly exchanging nice food type gifts $100 or under over the years.
It has made things easier although my sister in law sends the same thing every year for Christmas so there is never any surprise there . I mix it up and don’t send the same thing every year. Holiday shopping is exhausting! I am glad to be close to finishing it for this year.
I’ve done a little holiday shopping for the teenage boys (14, 16, 18)
For the oldest, going to college next year – a mini fridge and a yellow (his favorite color) Twin XL comforter. If he decides on a school before Christmas I will get him a sweatshirt from that school.
For the middle, going to college in 2 years – wireless earbuds, and Nanoleaf Hex LED light things that hang on the walls. Also a sweatshirt from the tv show The Chosen.
For the youngest, I don’t know yet! He needs hockey gloves but that is kind of boring. He loves army, navy, coast guard, and airsoft. He has had so many lego sets I feel kind of done with it but he does like Legos every time. I could get him a cell phone, but ugh.
For husband, I am getting him a Staub pan and a Chosen t-shirt, and I have one idea for a gift certificate.
Black Friday sales were good and I need to figure out where to hide a mini-fridge.
My mom actually got this for my 50th bday and gave it to me this weekend, but I thought it was a neat idea.
The New York Times makes a Book with the newspaper cover of your birthday for every year. They also threw in some bonus pages of major events (9-12-2001, osama bin laden’s assassination, etc).
I have one of these! D and SIL bought it for my birthday a few years ago. It is a great gift.
@ClassicMom98 , Great idea. My son and daughter in law got this for my sister 's milestone birthday a couple of years ago. She liked the gift but didn’t seem to really look at it much and it just sits under a big stack of her other books now . It is expensive so I would recommend it for someone who you think would really appreciate something like that the most.
Enjoyed some small business Saturday shopping today. Local honey, local pottery, gently used Ohio gardening books - so that was “local” too!
I did a bit of shopping this afternoon, not a chain store in sight. Stocking stuffers and a couple of ornaments.
Tomorrow will be shopping with sisters in the downtown of the small city next to us. I think the only chain store is Starbucks - we’ll hit the (far better) local coffee shop instead.
Older D and SIL will be getting $$$ to help with a down payment on a house, but there will still be a few things under the tree - a specific brand of scrubs and restaurant gift cards. Younger D is still a mystery gift-wise. Her BF will be joining us for the day and I’ve put H in charge of gifts for him.
H may get coal
“Like” for everything except the whatever the husband has done that apparently warranted a gift of coal.
I got the NYTimes birthday book for my husband on his last birthday! He always guesses correctly what people have gifted him, but this surprised him.
Walked up to the local shops and got some stocking stuffers as well as gifts for granddog. Ordered a few jigsaw puzzles for H (and me, it’s a long winter season here) and yet another gift for GD.
Years ago I shook my head when my MIL kept buying and buying more for the grandkids (she only had 2 at the time). Now I am doing the same thing…
Just bought us a Christmas present: a Greenworks pressure washer. I’ve been eyeing it, and Costco discounted it this weekend. It is rather a present for me ‘cause my husband does not do ‘washing. Can’t wait for spring!
