My son will be going back and forth to Boston for holidays, hopefully. Can anyone comment on accessibility to the different airports. Newport News is closest but has only a 1 NS flight a day very early in the morning. Is it easier to get to Norfolk or Richmond for college students? The trains is 13 hours long so that doesn't seem reasonable......

On breaks, the school runs a shuttle to both Richmond Airport and Newport News (I believe). It does cost money, I'm not sure how much... I believe it's $15/20 per person each way. There are also a variety of local services (taxi, etc) that you can get to take you to an airport. If you can combine the taxi fare with another person, it's not a bad deal.

But yea... on breaks, the school definitely has shuttles to local airports. There shouldn't be a problem, a lot of people head to the airports for the holidays.

Sorry I can't be of more help, I'm from northern va so it was never really an issue for me. If your student asks the RA/OA (orientation) during orientation they should be able to give more concrete information, or direct the student to where the information can be found. There should be no problem with flying though.

I flew to Boston once during the school year on a weekend out of Newport News on Airtran, I believe. It was an afternoon flight there and an evening flight back and it was around $130 roundtrip. Nonstop, comfortable, and convenient. So unless they've somehow discontinued service there, I'd say getting to and from Boston isn't going to be much hassle for you.

There are cabs that go there, or if your son knows someone with a car it's about a 15 minute drive.

This is the service my son uses...he just calls to reserve a spot - never had a problem. he's flown out of all 3 airports. They have W & M rates.
