holidays, breaks in college, what does it mean for an international student? pls help

I'm starting college this spring and I'm from Poland. Obviously I will arrive in US in jan 2 or 3 after christmas but what about the next christmas and other national holidays or breaks??? I will have to go back home everytime? The whole trip one way costs about 1000$. Can students stay in their dorms on breaks between semesters?? What do you do generally do internationals in those times of year??

Oh, I know what you mean. One-way home costs me about the same. I could not afford going home during the academic year, so this question was also quiet important for me.
Everything depends on the college. Some of them let students stay in their regular dorms without any fee during all or at least some of the breaks. My college doesn't charge housekeeping fee for staying during Fall and Spring breaks, but for Thanksgiving I will have to pay $15 to stay in my room. All campus buildings here close for 2 weeks during Christmas, but for internationals college leaves one house open and also charges some fee. Ask the office of international students in the school you are going to attend. Hope this helps.

thx for the anwser
