Holistic Admission question, and how will it affect me?

Hi, I'm Asian, much like the 40% that attends UCLA.

I am low income, first generation college student(Parents didn't graduate high school), single parent, korean my first language, had to work during 11th and continuing in 12th grade.

Now, my GPA is 3.6 with SAT scores around the 1800-1900s (im hoping to increase) and 650US History and 750Korean SAT2s. I am the president and co-founder of the model UN club at our school, along with leader of Christian club. I ran x-country for 2 years, lots of community service outside of school(200+ hours).

What I read in the thread in these forums about hollistic admisssions gives met he impression that Asians will be compared to Asians but is that not AA?

Because I'm Asian will I have a snowball's chance in hell to get into UCLA compared to the thousands of other Asians/Whites with 4.2 Gpas and 2200 SAT scores?'

I'm sorry if the format is kind of hard to read but my mind is a real blurr right now.. Thank you for responding!

Edit: Oh and also, my essay reviewers say that my essays are very good and reflect on my application as a whole.

Edit2: Should I just stick to hoping to get into UCSD or should i still hold out for UCLA? How are my chances? (my 1 year old sister currently attends UCLA and we were practically similiar in gpa wise and ec-wise.

why wouldn't you apply if that is your first choice???

I am going to apply.

I just dont want to hope too high cause I dont want to be crushed so hard.. It seems like with the new admission policy, my shot at UCLA is near 0 due to my low gpa and SAT scores.

Give it your best shot--and then sit back---you have done what you can-thats all anyone can ask of you, and then its up to the admin office.Good Luck!

it'll affect you (as you already know) in a negative way since your an over represented ethnicity taking away from "diversity." i know it sucks, im so happy these ridiculous, backwards rules didn't apply to me.

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCLA: Reach

You stats are a reach for UCLA, but a match for UCSD. But do apply for UCLA, you never know what the admission office comes up with.

All you need to do is pay $55? more and check an extra box. My sister never knew she would get into UCLA with her subpar score, but she did. So don't be discouraged.

thanks for the encouragement you guys!
