Holistic admissions my ass

Seems more like

2000 SAT. 3.7+ GPA then we will look at your application.

i get it you’re bitter, but no, you’re wrong. younger brother got in 2 years ago without meeting those benchmarks.

^Obviously due to legacy from you. Are you an URM as well?

Well im sort of bitter, but i was expecting to be rejected anyways.

UCs don’t consider legacy.

BTW, I’m on the otherside of the spectrum.
2240 SAT 800 on both subject tests, rejected. Holistic admissions /sigh

I got in with an 1840 and 3.6.

It’s all a crapshoot, don’t feel bad about it. I was on the higher end of the scale, I didn’t think my younger brother was going to get in (parents were super surprised). I’m probably one of the overrepresented groups on campus… god I hate feeding ■■■■■■.

My bad on that.

UCs don’t practice affirmative action as well.

haha!

CalvinTBOD, you dumb.

the politically correct answer is that UC’s do not practice affirmative action but…here’s an interesting article from 2 years ago about holistic admissions:

[UCLA accused of illegal admitting practices - Los Angeles Times](UCLA accused of illegal admitting practices)

Excerpt:

Arguing that UCLA admissions policies are being manipulated to circumvent the state’s ban on consideration of applicants’ race, a professor there has resigned from a faculty committee that he says refused to allow him to study the matter.

Political science professor Tim Groseclose resigned Thursday from the Committee on Undergraduate Admissions and Relations with Schools, saying high-ranking university administrators and fellow committee members are engaged in a “coverup” to block illegal activity from being discovered.

“A growing body of evidence strongly suggests that UCLA is cheating on admissions,” he wrote in an 89-page report posted on a UCLA website.

IMO its not a coincidence that the number of URM have increased since the holistic admissions has been introduced. (not arguing if its a good/bad thing)

If admissions was only based on #'s, it would really embody University of Lost Caucasians among Asians.

And I, being a Taiwanese-American, certainly don’t want to just see a bunch of asians running around the campus.

Re the URM issue: I’ve heard that the UCs in general use the 2 essays on “your world” and your background in part to determine whether the applicant is a URM or not. Just a rumor, but it sounds like a probable solution they would use to bypass the “no affirmative action” rule in CA state colleges.

the OP is just mad
