Holy cow! That's one expensive senior year!

How much did you pay for fees at school this year?

At my school, which is a PUBLIC educational institution, meaning it doesn't have a tution or all that jazz, fees have ranged from $200 to almost 1,000.

Where are all the costs coming from?

Various places. For instance, at my school there are required fees:
*Graduation fee - 55 dollars
*Class of '08 fee - 15 dollars (whatever this is for)
*Student Planner - 10 dollars
*Technology fee - 20 dollars

Then there are AP or advanced courses. Most science classes have a $25 lab fee, period. This is always in additon to other fees. AP classes are $83 and, then of course, there's the books:

The AP Lang/Comp textbook is $40
The AP Lit/Comp textbook is $65
The AP Bio book is $118
The AP Stat book is a whoppin' $125
The AP Calc and AP U.S. History vary depending on who you buy one from.
The AP Micro book and study guide combine to $85.
The AP Euro book and study guide combine to $60.
I'm not sure what the AP World textbook costs; it's a new class this year.

If you take bowling for P.E., which shouldn't be a requirement anyhow as it just takes up room for classes and it's not like my school offers any useful physical education such as health, fitness or nutrition, the cost is $120.

(sorry 'bout that long phrase in between)

Parking passes are $60-125 depending on the space available or some crap like that.

Sports are $125, $110 each for a second and third sport.

As you can see, the fees add up and up.

So, my question is simply:

HOW EXPENSIVE WAS YOUR SENIOR YEAR?

OR

school fees in general.

Mine:

Public school
Colorado
Senior Year
$634

i don't even want to add up prom, homecoming, gradbash...more than a lot is all i'll say

About $16.000, but it was more than worth it ;)

5G for tuition plus a bunch of other ****

Ouch expensive!

At our school, we have to pay for all our AP tests, our AP review books, Prom, Senior Trip, the Gov Philly trip, other class trips (like last year's fishing), the yearbook, honor societies (fund raising and graduation bands), and school supplies. I'm pretty sure it goes well over $1,000.

Wow. My school is public too, and I can't believe you have to pay for all that. All that I can think of that we have to pay for is Senior Ball (if we go), our yearbook, and AP tests. Oh yeah, and if we go bowling in gym then it's $2 and we go twice.

We don't have to pay for planners, AP texts, lab fees, sports, parking passes (there's almost no student parking), technology fees...basically anything. My senior year will probably cost a little over $300, and $249 of that will be AP tests.

Private school
$7000+

NOT including:

$500 registration fee every year
$100 mandatory fundraiser
$50 /per club
$100 /per sport
$100 science class materials
$15/ per class for review books
$15 for student council
$10 for mandatory donation to charity

for me: 3 clubs, 1 sport, $1100

And that's the stuff I can think of...it's at least that much though, and if you know me, my school totally sucks.

Fees incurred during senior year:
1 SAT at $40
8 APs at $83/test
6 AP study guides at ~$15/guide
Yearbook at $80
Cap and Gown at $80
Band Fee $13 (yearly uniform fee)
$75 applications for 3 colleges, $65 for one, $45 for one and $40 for one
Total: $1342 (not counting property taxes that would be paid in part for the education, which in our case came to about $5200)

Zivalicha, be lucky you are not female, as many of these spend hundreds on prom, homecoming and graduation apiece.

i'm only a jr, but my book bill/tuition is around 11,000

You have to pay for your sports?!?!
My Freshman year, all I had to pay was money for a couple books ($1.50+$7.75+$13)
Sophomore year I will have to pay some more money for more books, and 2 AP exams. Not too bad I guess.

:( property taxes

$0. The only fees I'd have to pay are for a PE uniform and a locker. However, I don't take PE and I don't need a locker. :D

You know, you could've bought those textbooks off of Ebay or Amazon for much less...just a thought.

Wow, that is expensive!

I think total class fees, class dues, plus diploma cover and cap & gown came out to $132.50 for me. Of course, that's not including AP tests at the end of the year ($83 each) and other smaller activities.

Errr... I go to a private school. Not gonna list that here.

But why on earth do you have to pay for so much at your publics? The only thing I've ever paid for at a public was a lock ($1), and AP testing ($83).

We don't need to pay for a planner, books, graduation etc.

Wow. My kids' homeschool education was completely FREE this year since we borrowed textbooks.

We paid for their PE (fencing, duh), which we would have paid for anyway.

You publics should revolt, and you privates... well, more power to your parents!

Senior Dues(Yearbook, Cap and Gown): $120
Prom: $120
=240

AP Tests and Books were covered by the school, which is a public inner city school.

I should add money for uniforms, but I bought them in junior year.

That's weird that you have to pay for books beforehand in public school. Can you get them subsidized? That seems unfair.

Our AP tests just got subsidized this year, and they were only $15 dollars. This year they're free. (good thing, I'm taking 4!)

We have a bunch of graduation things that you have to pay for, but anything can be subsidized if you're below the poverty line. Well, not prom :)
