Holy Cow!

I noticed that a lot of qualified applicants got either rejected or waitlisted. This really scares me. I'm only a junior, and I want to go to W&M, Duke, and UVA.

Black Female Virginia
Taking most demanding schedule at very competitive school
GPA: 3.77 uw, 4.1 w
3rd decile- I transferred from a lousy school with no honors or AP courses, bringing down my rank, while other students had an advantage of taking them in their freshman and sophomore years
SAT: highest composite: 1960 (700M/720W/540CR)
Hard of hearing--->explains my low verbal score
SAT II: 750/610
AP: 4s on USH and Psych
Awesome recommendations (shows that I am highly motivated and always improve academically)
Good essays

EC:
Community outreach program- Won an award for service and dedication
Volunteered at clinic
Tutoring
Some academic clubs
National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine on scholarship
Research at lab
National Honor Society

Additional Info: A Venture scholar, academic honor rolls, an award from non-varsity sport

Your CR score is a bit low, but your minority status should erase that. Otherwise, very solid candidate. You're in at William and Mary. You also have a shot at UVA.

Ok. Thanks. What about Duke? Do I have even a slight chance?

Duke is tough for everyone. It will be a big reach for you due to that critical reading score.

Duke will take you as well.

Your stats seem very familiar.

Are you dazedandconfused?

Nice spot, hp, looks very similar except for the gender.

Maybe they're soulmates.

how does being hard of hearing affect your CR score?

I looked at OP's posts, especially chance threads, and they are inconsistent. One says a black female from Pennyslvania. Dazedandconfused says he (or she) is from Pennyslvania too. Same race. Same stats. Just different gender. Funny. Why gender?

Fine. You caught me. I'm hopeforfuture and dazedandconfused. I'm really worried about the college admission. In some of my posts, nobody would respond to them. So I had to create another account to bump it or to give a response to encourage the others to say something. I just changed the gender because it makes it simple to change your identity and nobody would remember it. I'm really a male junior from Pennsylvania who want to go to UVA, Duke, and W&M.

I don't really understand how being hard of hearing brings my CR score low, but I understand that it is a trend for others with hearing disability to have low CR score and to have lower level of reading comprehension than their peers'. I assume this is so because we cannot hear words that may appear on SAT. We also cannot learn elements such as idioms through verbal speech. My guidance counselor explained my score in his letter.

Since you're only a junior, I think you would have a good shot at UVa if you increase your GPA by the time you apply. Otherwise, you have good scores/activities.

I would also write essays about your disability and how you're dealing with it. It can separate you from other applicants in a positive way.

Good luck!
