Holy crap I am an idiot. Pleaseeeeeee help me out.

Here's a little background: I'm applying to Boston University, which requires applicants to submit 2 SAT II's. BU is the only school I'm applying to that requires this. I took these two earlier today - Math II and US History.

I just got back from the SAT testing center and I'm so fking mad at myself. I was a complete idiot, and for US History, I answered all of the questions in the booklet first and planned on transferring them to my answer sheet once I was done. The proctor said he'd give us a 10 minute warning - but he got to engrossed in some computer game or something and didn't warn us until 3 minutes were left. I freaked, and started copying down the answers on my answer sheet as quickly as I could. Unfortunately, by the time time was called, I had only copied 39/90 answers. He wouldn't let me copy the rest and took my book up. So basically at the very most, I'll get like a 500 (assuming I get them all right, which I'm sure I won't), so more like a 400. God, I'm so ed. This same exact ** happened to me the last time I took the SAT.

What should I do? I can't cancel the scores - the only reason I signed up in the first place was so that I could apply to BU.

Here's an excerpt from BU's FAQ page:

I didn’t take the SAT Subject Tests; what can I do?

If you have not taken the SAT Subject Tests, or the ACT with Writing, your application will still receive a complete review by the Board of Admissions; however, it may be less competitive in comparison with students who have completed our application requirements.

^^^I'm not really sure what "less competitive" means, but it doesn't sound good.

What are my options?
-Should I just go ahead and cancel both? I'm really worried that the consequences of not submitting ANY SAT II's will outweigh the consequences of just sending in a really bad score.
-Can I just cancel the US History subject test? Or will they both be cancelled? And if I can, should I? Even though it means I'll only submit 1 SAT II when they require 2?
-If I can't cancel it, is there anyway I can only send the Math II score? On my free score report thing, I already told College Board to send both USH and Math II to BU. I did this last night, is there any way to change it?
-Or, should I just send both in hopes that it won't be a significant determining factor decision-wise. My chances are superb already (2100 SAT / 85 UW GPA), and I don't want this stupid mistake to cost me an admission.

Also, I was thinking - Is there anyway I could like send them my APUSH exam score? The APUSH exam is used to determine whether or not you can successfully complete a college-level USH course, correct? Isn't that the whole point of SAT II's as well? I got a 4 on the APUSH exam - not amazing, but enough to earn a USH credit, according to BU's website. I was thinking about emailing them or something, telling them that I screwed up with the bubbling, but that I can send them my AP score if they want to prove that I know the material.

Suggestions? I'm really kinda freaking out here.

"My chances are superb already (2100 SAT / 85 UW GPA), "

An 85 is approx a 3.0 UW GPA…as it is, you might be accepted only to College of General Studies…they don’t require SAT II’s…

Nevertheless, let them know what happened and ask them what their opinion is…

… If you had failed to copy them down from the test booklet before? Why would you do it AGAIN, once you’ve messed up before? And why did you wait til the last possible test date to do so.

Cancel the US Hist score–it can only hurt you, if your score turned out to be as low as you project.

Did you feel okay about Math?

No reason to cancel the scores unless you did terribly on both exams. If you do cancel, it will cancel BOTH math and history-- you cannot just cancel one.

If you used the “free score report” method, you can still change the recipients. Remove BU. Wait for your results to come in (Feb 10?) and then go onto Collegeboard and order/send the report manually. You can use “Score Choice,” as you probably know, to select which scores you would like to send. Just don’t send history.

If for some reason you cant change the recipient (99.5% sure you can-- I am still able to on collegeboard), then you will need to cancel both and claim you didn’t know about the requirement.

BU will never know you took the US exam and sucked. You can send admissions an e-mail saying you just took the SAT Subject test for math specifically for BU (shows dedication) and did not realized you needed to take two. I realllly doubt it will make much of a difference in application review, no matter what that little FAQ implies. They aren’t going to turn down an applicant just because he’s missing one little SAT subject test. Applications are viewed holistically.

Do not send the history score just to fulfill the requirment. No matter what, a missing score will look far better than a 400, which would stick out like a sore thumb. A 400 is the lowest 4% of scores. That’s realllllllllly bad. Honestly, I bet your score will be a little better than you are imagining, but still bad unfortunately.

You should have cancelled it on the spot, as in before you turned it in.You know you can do that…

I think it might be too late now.

rodney - whoops, I meant “aren’t” superb. my gpa blows horse nuggets.

meteman - because i’m ■■■■■■■■.

UT84321 - Just checked, can’t cancel ush without cancelling math ii.

Pancaked, that’s a really good idea but I’m not sure whether or not it’ll make it in time for the deadline. I remember reading somewhere on their site or something about how if you’re going to take the January SAT, you need to have scores sent immediately.

well this is just fantastic.

If I were you, I would call (not e-mail) the BU admissions office and exlpain it to them exactly as you explained it to us (including the fact that the proctor told you he was going to warn, but got engrossed in a video game), along with the “I’m not trying to make excuses” part and cross your fingers. Best of luck, I know it must be hard.

My D applied to BU. I thought the deadline for applying reg. decision was Jan. 15th, including sending test scores?

the deadline was actually January 3rd, but they accept Jan SAT test scores

Ouch… are you sure that is your best test taking strategy???

no, it’s most certainly not. i thought it would be a more efficient method, allowing me to “stay in the zone” longer or whatever. obviously not.

on an unrelated note, it takes soooo much longer to fill in those little bubbles than one would think.

I would take my chances with waiting in your scores, then sending just your Math one. I doubt that they will care if you don’t send them with your free score. They wouldnt get there that much quicker.

One SAT II is better than none. And I wouldn’t send a 400. No way.

They’ll accept the scores you send manually, especially if you do rush delivery. Accepting january scores means they will accept january scores, whether sent automatically or manually.

I totally agree with Jcold9. Wait, see what the scores look like, then choose the one you wand and have it sent to BU. They usually do this electronically, so it will be almost instantaneously. Wait. Do not blindly send in the 400. Do not do it.

This is why you always bring a watch with a timer to the SAT.

I did bring a timer, but the proctor said I couldn’t have it on my desk. Figured I’d just look at the clock, but forgot to record what time we started so I had no idea when it was going to end.

Don’t cancel your score. Use score choice. I sent only 3 out of 4 SAT IIs I have taken to colleges using that option. See what you get on US history first. If it’s acceptable, you should send it in. Collegeboard can’t send the reports until the tests are scored.

I never get why some people choose to do the questions on the booklet first and then transfer the answers later.

Pancaked presented the best plan so far.

OK so I just got my scores back and I got an 800 on Math II, 760 Math I, and a 600 U.S. History?!? How the crap is that even possible? I didn’t even answer half of the questions for USH…Wow, the curve must’ve been absolutely insane last month.

Regardless, a 600 is most definitely not good, but it’s not absolutely awful either. Should I still send it in?
