<p>Holy Cross Alumnus Togo Palazzi '54 played basketball at Holy Cross in the 1950s. He was captain of the Crusaders team that won the 1954 NIT Championship and was named MVP of the tournament. He was a two-time All-American.</p>
<p>Palazzi was selected by the Boston Celtics with the fifth pick in the first round of the 1954 NBA Draft. He played six seasons in the NBA as a member of the Celtics and Syracuse Nationals and averaged 7.4 points per game in his career. As a player, Palazzi was lauded by legendary Celtics coach Red Auerbach, as "the best one-on-one player he'd ever seen." Togo Palazzi was a key member of the Boston Celtics very first world championship.</p>
<p>More than 55 percent of alumni at the College of the Holy Cross made a gift to the College this year, exceeding the goal and surpassing last year’s total of 53 percent.</p>

<p>Holy Cross has one of the most storied programs in the history of any New England collegiate baseball team. In its 118 years, the Holy Cross baseball program has produced more than 1,600 wins, 121 Major League players and 81 Holy Cross Hall of Famers. Its home field, Fitton Field, recently celebrated its 100th year anniversary. Can you guess the year?</p>
<p>April 19, 2005, is the 100th anninversary of the first baseball game ever played at Fitton Field. In its 100 year history, Fitton Field has seen the likes of many notable players, but none more recognized than professional Hall of Famers Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth and Ted Williams. </p>

<p>Senior quarterback Dominic Randolph (Amelia, Ohio) hit on 28 of 49 passes for 422 yards and three touchdowns, to lead the Holy Cross football team to a 27-26 victory over Lafayette at Fisher Field today. With 80 career touchdown passes, Crusaders quarterback Dominic Randolph has now passed the Patriot mark set by Lehigh's Phil Stambaugh (1996-99).</p>

<p>Holy Cross is in the top 10 undergraduate schools nationwide in the number of American Chemical Society-certified chemistry majors that it graduates.</p>
<p>The 111th Congress, sworn in last week, features 50 members (out of 535) who are Jesuit-educated, according to the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. </p>
<p>The Holy Cross alumni, all Democrats, are Senator Robert P. Casey Jr. of Pennsylvania (BA 1982), Representative Timothy H. Bishop of New York (BA 1972), Representative James P. Moran of Virginia (BA 1967) and Representative Peter Welch of Vermont (BA 1969).</p>
<p>All but one of the current Supreme Court justices went to Harvard or Yale for law school, but their undergraduate institutions are a little more diverse. There are 2 Harvards, 2 Stanfords, and one each of Princeton, Cornell, Northwestern, Holy Cross, and Georgetown.</p>
<p>Founded in 1843, College of the Holy Cross was an offshoot of Georgetown, founded in 1789. Georgetown has a Congressional charter and actually conferred degrees at Holy Cross until Holy Cross was granted its Massachusetts charter (March 12, 1865).</p>

<p>Where did College of the Holy Cross get its name?</p>
<p>Holy Cross was founded by Benedict Joseph Fenwick, SJ, second Bishop of Boston, after his efforts to found a Catholic college in Boston were thwarted by the city's Protestant civic leaders. Fenwick gave the College the name of his cathedral church in Boston, the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.</p>
