I think what go me in was my ECs, I do lots of clubs and community service based activities. I didn’t do an interview or have time to visit so I will definitely be doing that soon, esp since they gave me a great fin aid package.
Congratulations on those accepted to Holy Cross. Excellent LAC! And happy to see the college awarding merit awards to top academic students again.
D was accepted with merit and is very excited, especially since we thought HC didn’t offer merit. Will definitely be on her short list as she makes her decision.
Does anyone know what the academic standards are in order to keep the merit $ year to year?
@LD3790 HC parent here. Regarding the wl - I have heard that this they wait-listed a lot of qualified applicants and were more conservative with acceptances because the freshman class was overenrolled quite a bit this year and they did not want to be in that position again this year. They also had an increase in apps. So a conservative approach means more wl and less admits, but also can lead to the wl moving.
@Saint68 was it merit or was it a Holy Cross Scholarship? I got a Holy Cross Scholarship which didn’t specify but seems to be based on financial need and needs to be renewed every year. https://www.holycross.edu/how-aid-works/scholarships-grants
@apdns19 Excerpt of the language was, “…you have been selected to receive a Holy Cross Merit Scholarship in the amount of $xxx… This scholarship is renewable for four years, providing you maintain your excellent academic and disciplinary records while you are here at Holy Cross”
@Saint68 That’s so nice. I don’t think it said anything in my letter. I just had the scholarship listed in the financial aid notification. Congrats!
@apdns19 Daughter received Holy Cross Merit Scholarship which, as the name implies, is merit. Also received Holy Cross Scholarship which is need based grant.
@RelocatedYankee That is great for her!
Accepted! The letter said 7000 applicants. What % were accepted? Anyone know?
I applied and was accepted last week!
@c5texas my daughters letter (waitlisted ) stated 815 selected from over 7000= 11.6%
@LD3790 That’s s crazy low number. Freshman class this year was overenrolled at 820, so probably targeting a smaller class. Still they probably are looking at 750, which means if the only accepted 815, they will need to use the WL extensively. But perhaps the 815 does not include the ED kids. That’s probably about 350 or so. Still, if they need 400 more from the 815, they aren’t likely to get a 50% yield and will need to go to WL. Good luck with that.
That seems too low. Last year’s acceptance rate was about 39% based on Common Data Set. I wonder how many were accepted ED?
815 + ED ? or 815 total in the freshman class?
My understanding of the waitlist letter that there were 7000+ applicants for 815 spots. They did not say how many were accepted or offered WL, only that 100-200 elect to remain on the WL. No way to deduce acceptance rate.
Sadly, my child was waitlisted. We thought (along with the guidance counselor) that credentials were appropriate. It is competitive and you just never know. Accepted spot on WL, but it clearly states minimal financial aid, so not sure we can manage, hoping for outside scholarships. Has anyone had any experience appealing a financial aid decision at HC? Doubtful, since it so clearly states in later. Happy for all accepted, praying for an acceptance.
This is the most common math error on this site.
The admissions rate is the number of people admitted divided by the the number of applicants. We don’t know that number yet.
It is NOT the number of freshman in Fall 2018 divided by the number of applicants, unless every single student admitted decides to go to HC. Which they won’t…most admitted won’t go.
Congrats to all admitted; congrats to all in general.
