Holy Cross RD Class of 2023

Hi everyone!
Does anyone know when in March we’ll hear back from Holy Cross?

Hello!
I applied as well! The decisions come out on April 1st; it’s on their website.

Oh wow didn’t realize it’s be so late

Last year, I see that it was released on Saturday, 3/17/2018, around 9:00 am.

so maybe we can expect a decision on 3/16 this year?

I just called and they confirmed Saturday morning March 16th.

@andrewna wow, so exciting!

Holy Cross is one of my top 3 choices with Wake Forest and Nova (Deferred EA). Visited school for 4th time several weeks ago and had campus had completely different feel. There was a 2 day student sit-in outside President’s office regarding administration’s alleged delay in addressing harrasment allegation against philosophy professor who was put on "leave. Then a 2nd professor was also put on leave. A group of upper class kids also spoke of an assault of a gay student this fall and a growing divide amongst students. The sense of community at HC is what made it feel like a fit for me and after my last visit I have deep concerns.

Supplemental Essay Question:
My son told he received an email from HC admissions about a week ago requesting he complete the supplemental essays. Unfortunately, he didn’t see the email until this past Friday. He quickly completed the supplemental essays, but it’s so late in the game. I feel awful for him. I can see why he didn’t realize there were additional essays. The essays required by the other colleges he applied to all went through Common App. I guess the essays for HC are a link after you log into the applicant portal (I may not have explained that correctly… but they are not part of Common App). I feel like this will hurt his chances of gaining acceptance. Thoughts?

Did he interview? That can be very her at HC.

He did not interview. He applied ED to another elite LAC and was deferred. We feel so naïve now as a parents, but we felt certain he would easily get accept to his ED choice. We know now that school wasn’t meant to be. However, when he received his ED deferred letter in December, we scrambled to find a similar school. Both his high school counselor and a private college counselor recommended HC to him. We live in the South (~13 hour drive from HC) and were surprised when he said HC was his top choice for regular decision…but not surprised because a Catholic College is important to him. So now we will just sit back and pray. Best wishes~

I asked my daughter if there was an essay for Holy Cross. She said no, just a survey with 1-2 simple short answer questions and some demographic information requested.

I noticed a few weeks beck on my sons portal that there was an optional response asking why holy cross, how did you learn about holy cross and 3rd question, anything else they should know about you and why you should be admitted I think were the questions. Best of luck to your all!

@blarney5683 Since your S did complete the essay, that’s what matters. HC likes to see demonstrated interest and probably uses that supplement to see who is really interested. There are a couple schools that have a supplement that does not show up on the common app, but comes through in the portal once you apply. Hamilton does it too.

When would official letter with financial aid arrive?

I submitted a music supplement and am aware that Holy Cross Admissions has already viewed it several times – can this only aid me in admissions or does anyone know if Holy Cross also offers merit-based aid to accepted students?

My daughter did not do the supplemental questions either - I did not know they were there until I read this post. I am devatingn whether I even want to tell her, at this point.

HC is her first choice, and she is a legacy. It is probably too late to send the essays in now, but I’m very disappointed because she was hoping for merit aid if they have any extra cash lying around this year (lol). What do you think? She had other scholarship applications due this week and play practice for just about every waking hour next week…

There were no supplemental essays. Once HC received the Common app they sent an email to the student saying they could submit writing samples or other information if they wished. They were optional.

^^They provided a prompt for an additional essay/question. It was optional but it’s a supplement all the same.

@jjplus3 If she’s a legacy and a strong student (top 10%, good scores if reported) I’d guess missing the optional supplemental essays (especially if she did an interview) wouldn’t torpedo her chances at all. As far as (academic) merit aid goes I’m afraid there is very little (if any at all) of that nowadays at HC. Athletics yes, academics essentially no. (Sounds like she might have been a candidate for ED which has a very high selection rate at HC.)
