what do you guys think?

If I had to make the choice for myself, I'd probably choose Conn College. Holy Cross has an awful location in my opinion and when I visited Bucknell, none of the students seemed particularly enthusiastic about being there and many of them were wearing clothing emblazoned with the names of other schools. As for Trinity, I don't know too much about it, so I couldn't say. Maybe I just visited the other two schools on a bad day, but Conn College seemed a lot more impressive to me- several interesting hands-on sort of programs, nice campus, and the students all seemed relatively happy. But they are all good schools and you could get a good education at any one of them. Good luck with your decision!

what are you studying?? If it's engineering...go Bucknell all the way.

I am obviously biased, as my name indicates, but here goes:

1) Worcester is only in an "awful location" if you think being across the street from the Coast Guard Academy and being near a naval base/shipyard is awesome. Further, Worcester actually offers a ton to do if you know where to look with the added benefits of Boston and Providence each 30-45 mins away.

2) Each school is small, but factor in just how small you really want to go. 400 people per class is entirely difft than 700 plus.

3) Each school has an outstanding academic reputation, so you can't go wrong as it pertains to academics.

4) Athletics: Its (just as) important to root for your teams as it is to get good grades. This said, Holy Cross and Bucknell offer far more from this perspective than Conn College or Trinity do.

5) Location (again): If you pick any school based on location, then you applied to the wrong list of schools. None are in awesome areas. Go back and visit each one and see how you feel the second time around, realizing that each school is much more than its campus. As an aside, Worcester is undergoing a Providence'esque revitalization, which, in and of itself, is something to look forward to.

I am happy to answer more questions about HC if you want me to, but whatever school you go to, you will get a great education. Having gone there, I would just argue that while Worcester is no Boston, it is by no means New London (which is a good thing).

Best of Luck.

crewsader - i heard Holy Cross deflates grades? Do you have any experience with this and/or can you elaborate on this, thanks

That was not my experience, nor do I think it is practiced at the Cross. On the flip side, it has also not been my experience nor understanding that grades are inflated. In short, you get what you work for, which can be very good, mediocre, or...

None of the schools you list have mass grade inflation like a Duke, or Harvard, etc... While inflated grades help from a "selling yourself" perspective, or so the argument goes, you're not going to learn as much b/c you'll put in half the effort and generally employers know what schools typically graduate 80% of the class with honors (See Harvard).

Long story short, HC profs do not deflate grades.

Good Luck and let me know if you have any more general questions that I can help out with.

aca have you visited the campuses.
I am quite familiar with Bucknell and think it has a beautiful campus, with spacious green lawns, and traditional tree lined academic quad. I love that the campus center is strategically located in the center of campus, which acts as a magnet for students going up to the academic quad or down to dorms. Plus the new athletic center is stunning.

Would be very interest in how the other campuses compare.

Thanks.....my friend has a sophomore who will be comparing these four schools, too !

Trinity is gorgeous. Lovely old brick buildings. It sits up on a knoll, the grass rolls down towards the athletic fields and buildings, and the Hartford cityscape is the view, in the distance.

Conn College is also very pretty, mostly beige fieldstone buildings. Also on a knoll top, with an arboretum adjacent. Town is a bit grotty but there are plenty of young people w/ Naval academy there too.

Trinity & Conn are both preppy & friendly. Conn feels smaller and more isolated. Conn seems a bit "artsier" but truly the two schools are pretty close.

We have friends whose kids are at Bucknell; I think Bucknell is in a more rural location but is otherwise very close in Spirit to Trinity. Don't know much about Holy Cross. Try PMing par72; he is a big booster.
