home appliances in the dorm

just wondering... do they provide refrigerators and electric water boiler in the dorms?

no. you can rent a microfridge from the school ($195 for the year, and i believe the deadline has already passed), but other than that, you're going to have to bring your own.

ah... o.0 when did it passed? and is there any chance for negotiation? I didn't kno that we'r suppose to bring our own fridge...

the deadline was the 17th, but i think you can still order one. the site just says that if you order by the 17th, your fridge is guaranteed to be there by the time you move in. here's the site to order:

http://www.collegefridge.com/cgi-bin/schoolselect2002.pl?21

Err, you'd probably be better off buying a fridge. 195 gets you a pretty nice one.

I believe at target, 60 bucks will net you something good enough for the school year.

I agree with Deuces.
Buy a fridge (maybe split the cost with your roommate(s)) and there's usually a microwave within a few minutes' walking distance.
A hot water boiler is also nice to have for late-night instant ramen.

Just buy your own. I bought one last weekend for ~$150 at Lowes.

How do you sneak a microwave into your room? Is their staff members standing around during move-in?

Put the microwave in the bottom of the cart and cover it with stuff while you take it up. Though no one really looks through your stuff during move-in.

Make sure to cover the microwave with a towel or something during inspection week.

Electric water boiler = heaven + g00dness 4 newdles. buybuybuy

Thanks Kalasin!

Inspection takes less than 2 minutes. My R/A would even tell us "If there's anything.... blahblah... make sure that you... blahblah" or "If you have stuff you're not supposed to have, hide it cuz we're coming by 2mrw and we're gonna take a 10-second glance around kthxbai" essentially.

mme-lin, electric water boiler=need to hide? or is it allowed... if its allowed i'll bring one if not i'll prolly have to stick to microwave...

It's not allowed. Make the damned noodles any way... see if they give a damn! [/rebel  <^>]

Just BRING it. No one cares... unless you want them to. MW sucks for noodle-making. :( cries :(

Mwahahahahahahah!!!

DWAI. Just bring it. What I will do... is.. basically. Wave WATERONLY for 2-minutes. then pour into bowl. Same deal less hassle. Sfobv.

I'd take the water boiler over the microwave.
It takes up less space and there's usually a microwave where the vending machines are.

We didn't hide our microwave during inspection week and we got a warning to remove it. We didn't remove it and nothing happened afterward.

our RA's really didn't care..

and i definitely did NOT have to hide my water boiler (even if it's against regulations or w/e)

anyone living in Rieber hall, i'm not gonna bring a a water boiler, but i'm prolly gonna go visit some of ya to get some free hot water lol

'Free' hot water in dining hall... steal a cup or something of it and run away.

Or purchase it for 0.15 @ coffeehouses on-campus.

There was a microfridge/microwave in my room already, and none of my roomates ordered it. What should I do?

If it's already there, does it mean it was paid for already?

I get free hot water @ seas cafe...or at least I think it's free :)
