Home decor

I need some object around the house to soften up. Where do you go to browse? I am checking out West Elm. Not seeing anything yet.

What is your setting/style of your home or the space you want to decorate? Victorian? Mid Century Modern? Traditional? Beachy? Cabin like?

Also are you talking small items like mantel items, wall hangings, etc. - or bigger items like end tables or the like?

Who are you appealing to? Yourself or for a sale of a property?

HomeGoods is a go to for me. In-store. Target.

Wayfair?

I always used to stop into Homegoods when I had some time to kill. Nowadays, I browse at Wayfair or certain specialty retailers for specific items. Most recently, I ordered a stretch slipcover for a loveseat (Amazon) and a velvet and sherpa throw (Lands End) for our bedroom and a wool rug (Overstock) for our former playroom now home office.

@abasket I am looking for accent pieces for the dining table when the table is not in use. The table is about 42” by 80-90”. HomeGoods doesn’t list items on their website. The house is modern but the table is traditional.

I’ll second Wayfair, in part because they usually provide Country of Origin information. You might also check out Anthropologie, Williams-Sonoma Home, Uncommon Goods and Etsy. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how good my luck has been with Etsy sellers. I especially like looking for vintage items that aren’t showing up in every major retailer’s website.

If you want to order online or curbside pick up try Michael’s, Hobby Lobby type stores or JoAnne Fabrics.

Or have a local florist make a centerpiece plant or fake floral arrangement for the season or multi season

Maybe you have a nice upscale thrift shop that needs a visit  Per various other threads, there might be some nice things from people downsizing etc

@Iglooo are you willing to go onto shops to look around? I’ve found that ordering table decor online can be iffy. The colors don’t always read well, plus the sizes are hard to judge. If you can get to Homegoods, or a place like that, you can actually see what you are buying. If the stores are near your home, you can return easily.

I try to use things I have in my house. I’m getting ready to make a “center arrangement” on my dining room table of pitchers. I have a bunch of varying sizes and colors.

@thumper1 Good point. I would still like to browse on line to get an idea what they carry before going into the shop. Going to physical stores is time consuming.

@Colorado_mom Fantastic. I didn’t think of thrifty stores. I bet they are a good source.

Example thrift store (this one is non-profit that I’ve heard is good but have not visited) - Global Thrift

Go to Pinterest to look for dining table decor. Then shop for what appeals to you. Sometimes it’s the arrangement or color scheme that is the ticket, not necessarily the items.

My absolute favorite place to shop when I’m staging homes is Home Goods. If one is near your, that is the place to start

Agree that pinterest is amazing for ideas! I got a beautiful blue and cream thanksgiving centerpiece concept (flowers, cream pumpkins) from there, then went to Michaels to pick up what was needed (used existing stuff at home).

Ballard Designs is my go to, but always online as they only have a handful of stores. For local browsing, I like Kirkland’s and Home Goods and will enter a Hobby Lobby on occasion, but I’m also a sucker for crossing three lanes to pull in to any eclectic-looking decor shop I happen to pass. I will also Google for ideas and scan “view all” in the images section. (Right now I’m looking for clever under-the-staircase ideas). I definitely do a ton of online looking before I firm up a purchase decision.

Another place to go for ideas is Houzz.com.

@Nrdsb4 I am a Houzz addict :slightly_smiling_face:.

Went to homegoods today. Tons of stuff except I was a bit late. They just had a sale and all picked over.

I will check out Ballard design. I used to get a catalogue. I also love Pinterest.

That’s weird. Every Home Goods I’ve ever been to does not have sales. A clearance aisle, yes, but no sales. Sticker price is everyday price.

I picked up a really pretty aqua glass pitcher and bowl that will be my part of my new DR table centerpiece. At a thrift store…$10 total. All I have left to get is some candles for the clear candle holders.
