Home delivered groceries in Philly...

Has anyone tried to order groceries online and do you guys know any cheap service? I've used tesco.com in the UK and it works well and the price is exactly the same as in their supermarkets. You only pay about 4 pounds for the delivery and once you get used to it, well, you don't want to go running around the grocery store anymore...

Is there anything similar that works in Philly?

I don’t know of any in Philly. But I read your post because I order groceries for my elderly Mum (she doesn’t have a computer) in the UK from Tesco and Sainsburys. Always amazes me how technology enables me to do her grocery shopping from thousands of miles away in the USA.

There’s a store on 43rd and Walnut (Think it’s called “Supreme Foods”?) that will deliver if you spend more than $50. I don’t know if there’s an online option…Otherwise, Fresh Grocer is located right on the corner of 40th and Walnut, and is open 24/7

I believe Fresh Grocer delivers also [The Fresh Grocer](http://www.thefreshgrocer.com/)

though nobody uses these kinds of things in Philly (as opposed to Seattle, where I live now, where everyone seems to use Amazon Fresh)

Dude, you’re in college. The chance to save money, meet people, and go outside your dorm room should all be appealing. Unless you are in some way handicapped, in which case please accept my apology.

A few years ago, there were a bunch of people trying to set up web-based grocery businesses in Philly, but as far as I am aware they all crashed and burned. Everyone tried one once, no one particularly liked it, no one I know does this. The prices aren’t really the same as in the stores, because there are lots of in-store discounts that weren’t being applied to the home delivery orders.

In any event, there are at least the two supermarkets, and a number of convenience stores that sell basic groceries, too, in the Penn area (and a Trader Joe’s about a mile walk or a 5-minute trolley ride away).

If you think there would be demand for this . . . hey!, business opportunity!

[Penn Ten: Bulk Delivery of 10 Products](http://pennten.com/)

Not a great selection, but should fulfill basic needs

Well, I’m a Ph.D. student and I’ve already done enough grocery shopping to know that I rather pay for the service. I rather spend the wasted time at the gym or somewhere else. I’ll try the services suggested to see if they’re any good. Thanks for the suggestions.

It turns out Genuardi’s and Acme, two local chains, will deliver pretty much anywhere in the city. Fees vary, and may vary further (or be waived altogether) if you buy a lot at once.
