Homeschooled vs. Schooled

I want everybody's opinion, so future applicants can have an idea of this. Which one would have a better chance of getting into a BS? Or are they the same? Would being home-schooled have a slight disadvantage?

maybe. if you’re way advanced in your studies, it could be an advantage. But it means you have little school social life experience.

I think it depends on how you spend your time and what resources are available to you. It’s useless to generalize about how the average home-school applicant will do, since there is a very wide range of talent. There is a home-schooled 8th grader near us who just won an international math competition. I would expect that most schools would be delighted to admit her.

The Head of Admissions said that the admissions office focuses on how well the home-schooled candidate would thrive in a more structured environment. If there is some concern they recommend that the candidate attend a summer session at their school.

Well, I know many people at Exeter who were homeschooled before they came and I don’t think it puts them at a disadvantage at all. I think its just porportionate with the number of people from schools who get in; that’s why they are less.
