Homeschooler and Trinity

Hi All,

My son and I visited Trinity today and we both really liked it. He is a math/science kind of guy and this school looks like it would suppport this. I was impressed with the faculty and the student body.

Academic wise he does well. He hovers around a 3.9-4.0 GPA, and received a 760 in Math, and 660 in Reading on his SAT. However, he is a pretty shy guy. He loves to think things over before he speaks.

I know there are a few homeschool moms out there whose teens apply to Trinity and I was just wanting to know how high of a hoop he would need to jump through. Does Trinity like homeschoolers?

Thanks

Momof2 welcome...sorry I really don't know the answer to your question but I wanted to advise you or your S to talk to his admissions counselor about their views and policies re. home schooled admits. I think that if he calls it would demonstrate interest and provide him with the answers he and you are looking for.

Also if you have the time and inclination will you please fill out a visit report. It is so helpful to those of us who haven't yet been there to learn more through the eyes of those who have. Were you a part of Trinity in Focus?

My homeschooled son applied EA this year. He should hear shortly after Feb. 1st whether he got in. He interviewed with the homeschool admissions counselor when we visited. My son has taken quite a few dual credit classes, and she seemed to like that. She also seemed to like SAT IIs, although I don't think they are required for homeschoolers.
If you haven't already, you might want to talk and/or meet with the hs counselor. I think they like homeschoolers to interview.
Your son's math score is above the 75% and his reading score is in the middle 50%, so I think he should have a good shot at Trinity.

historymom-
Yes we went to the Trinity In Focus. We did not speak to the our admissions officer; we missed her.
I will endeavor to try to go to the visitors site. But in short, the campus is clean and quiet.

The dorms are clean and look well maintained. I am not crazy about the 3 yr on campus requirement however, if it could bring my shy guy out it is worth money.

The campus is small enough so that the students can walk where ever they need to go.

We had lunch on campus and it was good.

The professors were motivated and enthusiastic. They really seemed to hone in and want to help. I really liked them.

We toured the chemistry building and it was kind out out dated, but we were told that they are getting a replacement in 2 yrs.

Thanks.
So it was not a formal interview?

My son has a few dual credits. By the time he goes to Trinity he will have Calculus 1, 2 and 3, US History 1 and 2, Sociology and a computer class. No AP classes or SAT IIs.

Yes, based on what I learned today, I think he has a good shot as well. We shall see.
; )

Yes, it was a formal interview with the hs admissions counselor. She met with him, and then with both of us. My son also did not have APs, but that didn't seem to be a problem.

Excellent!

I hope your son is able to get in. What would be his major? My son is interested in the Engineering program.
