COLLEGE LIST:

UT-Austin
Boston College
Colgate
Lafayette
Hamilton
Brown
American University
Macalester

really? nobody wants to shatter my hopes and dreams? cmon guys!

For the East coast schools, if you were applying from NY, Boston, DC, then BC, Colgate, Brown would very much be reaches. From my son’s school, your chances would not be so good even with great grades. I don’t know how much weight is given to home school grades. Also dual enrollment at what college? No APs test scores yet, and only one AP course?

Lafayette, Hamilton, Macalester. and American would be matches. UT Austin–don’t know how they treat homeschoolers. Neither of my nephews were accepted there and they got into schools like Colgate, and BC. You need to talk to someone who knows how the % system works for homeschooler and whether you are an auto accept with your grades.

Hamilton and Macalester will need to be shown a lot of love. Interest makes a difference to them.

A local community college, but it’s def. more respected (as far as a comm. colls go, if that’s possible), at least according to a regional Rhodes adcom I talked to. Homeschool grades are considered significantly less, but I have enough info to prove I’m legit and that the teachers know what they’re doing.

From what I hear UT Austin is a little softer towards in-state homeschoolers because the auto admit system shafts us.

Not sure about one thing though- why is Hamilton a match, yet Colgate a reach? Hamilton has higher 25-75’s SAT I.

I know both schools pretty well, and who got into them, so I’m using that info which is subjective. The compositions of the midpoints is also telling. At H, 50% schored over 1230 on the 2 part SAT. At C, 75% scored over 1310. You have a tougher crowd applying at C, much tougher, so though the acceptance %s and mid ranges are similar, it’s harder for a given person to get into C than H.

It’s not that the homeschool grades are legit or not. Schools like to see how you perform among high performing students in class, and right now you have no such baseline. They will eyeball the SAT2 scores v-e-r-y carefully and most of them like to see more than just 2 SAT2s and some APtest scores are nice too. You don’t have either, so I would not give much impact to your grades. You haven’t shown how you perform in courses that top students take. Comm colleges don’t usually have a lot of top students. Admissions goes through these thought processes in an instant, not mull them over or explain the out as I am doing IT’s an instant impression, a snapshot. and you do not look good in that regard.

ugh, really don’t want to be stuck at Texas A&M

You don’t have enough information for an accurate “chance me” post. As stated above SAT II scores and AP scores are crucial for homeschooler’s. If I were you, I’d take 4 SAT II tests. Something in math, science, English, and foreign lang. I would also take a few AP exams. Many are well suited for self study. Gotta shoot for 750+ on the SAT II’s and 5’s on the AP’s.

Dude. I can’t take AP tests until May. That doesn’t help admission.

Then I suppose your chances are gonna be a little iffy. Shoulda been asking these questions last year! Good luck.

You can take some SAT 2 tests so a school can see how you stand with kids who went to school and got grades.

My nephew is at A&M. And his stats were better than yours and he did have APs and was not home schooled, came from a rigorous school. Did not get into UTAustin.

yeah… and I am taking those…

I mean, I wasn’t bashing A&M, it’s obviously good, just… not confident how I’d do in the environment (large/conservative)
