Have any of you homeschooling parents filled out the common app without using an "outside"/ non-parent teacher recommendation?

Just curious how others have handled it, as we only have one academic course that is taught by a non-parent for our homeschooled kids. Right now I'm thinking I'll fill out at least one of the teacher recommendations myself.

We did not do the common app, but the school where D applied asked for a “guidance counselor” recommendation letter. I submitted that letter myself. (I’d be happy to give you some details via PM). We submitted two other recommendation letters, one from a choir teacher who has worked with D for several years, and another one from a leader at our church.

I was just on the phone yesterday with a scholarship program that was also asking for two teacher recommendations. I asked if they would allow me to fill one out since I am the one who has taught almost all of her classes. They were fine with that.

Unfortunately with the common app, you may not have a specific person or office to call to check on how that would work for you. I would make a call to a couple of the schools that are high on your list and have them address that issue directly.
