Homeschooling and NYS Regents

Hi,
I'm new to the homeschooling page but thought somebody here might have an answer!

My daughter attends a public school and will probably be staying there through graduation, as she likes it, is very involved, and it has a great music program.

The thing is it is a rather small school where, in certain subjects (how do I put this nicely) I don't think she will benefit from the experience, learn much, and therefore not do well even though she is a bright girl with a high average.

Is there a way I could homeschool her in these subjects only and yet still have her be allowed to sit for the NYS Regents exams and graduate with an Advanced Regents diploma? We may even want to start and complete a course this summer to lighten up her course load next year and to see how it works out, if possible. Thanks!

Hi! I would suggest asking your school counselor, as different schools have different policies on homeschool credits. However, I have never heard of only homeschooling in certain subjects.
I have been homeschooled my entire way through school, and it has worked very well for me. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to often work out for people who start homeschooling late (especially when you take college admissions into consideration). If you feel that your daughter needs a more advanced curriculum in certain subjects, I would suggest buying some textbooks and having her supplement in the summer. I’d suggest Saxon for math and science and A Beka for English (very strong grammar).
Best of luck!

You might try contacting a local homeschooling group or try researching homeschooling laws in NY.
