Hi all,

I have been homeschooled all of my life except for third grade and fourth grade. I'm graduating in 2009 so it's time for me to start thinking about colleges. I will be applying to Ivies and such. What do you think admissions would like to see? Do you think being homeschooled puts me at a disadvantage?

I think most of all, colleges are looking for a student who will shine in the classroom and will contribute to the vitality of the student body at the college.

The Ivies and other elite schools do accept homeschoolers so I am not sure if you’d be at any major disadvantage. That said, the Ivies in particular look for dynamic personalities and future leaders. So take that into consideration when you apply, and list ECs and accomplishments that put you in that light. Also, you should soon contact each school’s admission offices to check specific application processes/requirements for homeschoolers.
