Which college gets the best attendance from people in its hometown and places people in its hometown?
Public colleges naturally enroll high numbers of in-state residents. Private colleges with “regional” reputations generally draw from a relatively local area as well. Private universities with national reputations also can be disproportionately represented by students from their home states. Stanford enrolls about 39% from California, Harvard about 17% from Massachusetts.
