Homewood Field

Does Johns Hopkins still have a track around the lacrosse field? I heard rumors it had been torn up.

It has been, and replaced by a black clay-track type material. There is a 1/10 mile track in the rec center however, and you can still run around the outside of the Lacrosse field--this is very close to 400 m. I heard that a track will be built, but I'm not sure.

is the black clay stuff where the track used to be? so if you ran one time around it would it be 400m?

Approximately.

You can always run the almost exactly 2 miles around campus: http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/md/baltimore/335365963

The black clay stuff is a little less than a quarter mile, so it's just a bit shy of a full lap at a normal track.

Are they planning on putting in an all weather track?? I hope they do...

They better, I'm not sure I can go to a school that doesn't respect track.

One of the cool things about Hopkins is that it's a university first, before anything else. So while things like a track are important, making sure there are amazing faculty and academic resources comes before luxuries (like a track).

You definitely can't make that same statement for many schools in the US who fail to secure top faculty and resources because they want their gym to have a waterslide or a lazy river....

From what I am told by members of the track team, is that a track is planned to be built at JHU eastern campus, which is a purely Administrative campus (i.e. office buildings). It's a 15 minute walk from homewood. Not very beneficial to anyone who wants a real track to run on.

sounds kewl since I am currently in Track and Cross Country
