Honest appraisal of chances

troll

An electronic mail message, Usenet posting or other
(electronic) communication which is intentionally incorrect,
but not overtly controversial (compare flame bait), or the
act of sending such a message. Trolling aims to elicit an
emotional reaction from those with a hair-trigger on the reply
key. A really subtle troll makes some people lose their
minds.

wow, interesting

Thanks for the helpful replies from certain individuals (ohio_mom, etc.). While the schools that were suggested are all very top of the notch, I am curious as to which of HYPSM would be a good fit for me.

To iwantfood: You work hard and you desire your goals. That's pretty much it.

To cool2bars: I'm not sure how to get a message across that must have been repeated so many times before, but it's really no help to focus on the topic of a "troll." I hope you have something better to do than to look up definitions of words to erroneously prove a point.

Minkowski, you will get in where you want to. Just do something for your community

Pretty sure it's a troll...

what are all those abbreviations? science awards?

with those stats, it becomes a game of chance. you might as well flip a coin to see if you get in. because your stats are near perfect and you have all those awards and ECs.

"I am curious as to which of HYPSM would be a good fit for me"

This is just my reaction based on the tenor of your posts - do not take it as gospel, I'm just a stranger on the internet:

Princeton and Stanford.

You need to visit MIT in person: you will either love it or want to leave as quickly as possibe. I haven't a clue as to which category you fall into!

Ohio_mom, is there any reason in particular that you think stanford and princeton are good fits? I have visited MIT (I was in boston for quite a while during some of my summers) and am certainly considering the school. Campus-wise, out of the two boston schools I visited (MIT, Harvard), I liked the harvard yard atmosphere better.

I get the impression you are looking for a place to pursue your interests with a certain focus and freedom from distraction (and least those distractions that you do not actively bring on yourself). Both P'ton and Stanford have lots of mathy types that are also pretty multi-dimensional. Although they are both work hard play hard places, it is my impression that they have not had to do to the extremes that, for example, MIT has to keeps its kids from self destructing. There seems to be more of a self-regulation of sanity.

The great advantage of the Boston schools is that you could, for example, attend Harvard and take your CS courses at MIT.
