honest chances?

asian female from maine

gpa: 3.7/3.8
taken the toughest corseload, many AP's
class rank: top 5% (class size: 420)

SAT: 2200

extra curric:
-Mock trial captain (4 yr)
-Model UN (3 yr)
-Link Crew (help the freshmen out (2 yr)
-Cello (9 yr)
-Rec sports k-12, not a big deal, just for fun

sports:
-Varsity outdoor track (4 yr) - All conference soph/junior yr
-Varsity indoor track (2 yr) - All conference junior/probaly senior yr
-Summer track club (it's not a camp, its a branch of USA Track&Field), this is the first yr i'm doing this, but there are many meets where the team will compete against college athletes and, i believe, professional athletes, we'll see how i do there! i've been told I have a chance of placing at these meets
-I am the state champion in my event, and ranked top ten in all of New England in that event. I've reached the national silver standard (possibly gold by the time I apply to colleges) and i have placed / won at many statewide (or spanning multiple states) meets

+hoping to do track in college, but idk anything about recruitment yet... will find out next year. i know it's a DI school so it will be hard to get recruited

thanks a lot for taking the time. it's really appreciated.

I think you have a good chance of getting recruited, because you are first in your state, etc.
Your GPA/Class Rank/SAT’s are good enough to get you in without the additional hook, but if you can get recruited, I’d say you’re in, 99.9%.

wow! thank you limetime
out of curiosity, do you have any experience with sports recruiting?

D has recruited a significant number of male track athletes from Maine in recent years, and some females too. (Top ten at the New Englands is good…whether it is good enough to be recruited will depend on who else is available, of course.) Their stats were probably in the same ballpark as yours. (I know that one of the recruited runners last year was a Presidential Scholar candidate, so his SATs were most likely better than yours, but that’s just one kid.)

So it seems to me that you are in excellent shape, especially if you are recruited. Re the cello: do you do a youth symphony such as PYSO or all-state?

You might want to drop in on the special forum for athletic recruiting to get more information.

okay thanks a lot! do you know anything about track at dartmouth? like average times etc.? if so then what can you tell me about high jump & triple jump?

& for cello I just play in the school orch. nothing special lol

No, I don’t. But you can find meet results on the net if you do a little searching.

luckily dartmouth has a great athletic website ! but if anyone has firsthand experience, that would be very helpful!

first of all, does anyone else find it amazing that the poster above me has essentially the same username? (the office fan i assume)

second, i think you have a good shot. However, I have heard of athletes who are too well qualified for coaches to use recruiting spots on. I would bet that if you apply ED you would get in.

haha yes i love the office but my username refers to back to he future

hm im don’t understand, how can an athlete be overqualified for a recruiting spot?

a coach gets a limited number of recruiting spots and does not want to use a recruit on someone who could more than likely get in on their own unless the student would be an absolutely astounding addition and the coach fears that he will lose the recruit.
