I'm currently a Junior & haven't taken my act/sat yet ( I'm taking the act in 2 weeks & the sat next month ). I have a 4.1 weighted GPA & a 3.7 unweighted. I played Varsity softball Freshman & Sophmore year, I stopped this year. However this year I'm now apart of my schools NHS & I got a job this year as well. I've taken one AP class every year since Freshman year & all the rest honors classes. (Didn't pass Human Geog, passed World History ).Senior year I'm planning on taking AP Calc, AP Bio, AP gov/economics, & AP Psychology. I know my ECs suck & it's hard to judge w/o my scores but what would my chances be?

With UF’s holistic admissions, it’s hard to tell anyone’s chances.

50% of admissions is based on GPA(most important), Class Rigor (are you taking the toughest classes available at hour high school?) and Test scores (less important of the three).

The other 50% is based on EC’s, Leadership and your essay (the essay does matter!).

On top of all that, UF takes into account (to what degree, we don’t know and UF isn’t saying) if you are in-state or out of state, and what part of the state your high school is located.

Your GPA is fine, it’s within the middle 50% of admitted students. It’s looks like class rigor is also fine. That leaves your ACT/SAT scores. You want to shoot for an ACT score between 26 and 31 and/or an SAT score of 1780 to 2020 (the middle 50% of admitted students).

<a href=“Freshman - How To Apply - University of Florida”>http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/frprofile.html

That still leaves 50%!. Look to add to your EC’s. Work is fine, so try to keep it up over the summer; see if you can do anything “leadership” related with NHS (or through your volunteer work), do some volunteer work over the summer (if you’re in-state, you need the hours for bright futures, and if you already have your hours, it can’t hurt to add to them). Work on your essay over the summer. Based on how you do on the ACT/SAT, you may also want to study for the test over the summer and take it a second time in the fall.

Don’t treat UF as a safety! Have a back-up plan and apply to several other colleges. If you do get admitted to UF, then great! If not, you will want to have other options.

Good Luck!

Thank you so much & it’s not my safety at all, it’s my first choice completely. And yes I’m going to try and find some sort of leadership opportunity to do during the summer thank you for the advice.

I am a junior interested in going to UF next year. I was talking with my personal college adviser the other day, and he deals with lots of students that want to go to UF as well (I live an hour north of Miami). He told me that he thinks I will have no problem getting into any schools in Florida, including UF and UM.
This is a brief description of my credentials:
SAT - 770 M | 660 R | 670 W - 2100 total
GPA - (unweighted to make things easy) Around 3.85 - 3.9
I don’t have stellar EC’s… I am the president of one club, a member of a few others, lots of community service, and no sports junior and senior year

He also told me that 4 out of 26 students he worked with did not get in to UF and ALL of them had unweighted GPA’s under 3.5. Just keep taking challenging courses and aim for 2000+ on your SAT and your chances seem pretty good.
