I am a communications major trying to move to Boston. I want to transfer to a school in Boston (BU, BC, etc.) and was looking for some honest answers on which school is academically prestigious, will provide good job/internship opportunities, and can provide me with a solid social life to party on the weekends. Thanks!

Well BC is generally thought of as more academically prestigious, however I know that BU’s communications program is very good so you may be looking at an overall prestige vs quality of program decision. Both have access to Boston and as such both will offer up internship opportunities. As for social life, I doubt either would disappoint. I’ve heard that BC’s social life is more focused on campus while BU’s social scene utilizes the city a lot more as they are really in it.

My friend is currently a communications major at BU, and she absolutely loves it. Obviously I jokingly ridicule her for her college choice (and she returns the favor), but she is incredibly happy where she is. She’s had tons of opportunities, worked on BU’s television channel, is applying for fall internships, and she raves about her classes. I’m not saying BU’s communications program is better than BC’s (and I’m clearly going to advocate for BC no matter what!), but personally I think both schools are essentially equal here. If you wanted to be a business major, BC would be the better choice, but when it comes to communications, I think you’ll be making a great decision no matter what school you pick.

Good luck!

For communications I’d say BU is a better pick. The program is strong and there are tons of opportunities. I applied and got into both schools this year and was surprised to find I prefered the BU campus/commnity to BC’s. Both are good schools and even though BC is harder to get into BU is comparable academically. Visit both and go with your gut.

I will say that BU offers a superior technical education is certain disciplines. Thus, for a major like communications I would probably opt for BU everything else being equal. IMO BC offers a superior education for professional fields like (pre) law, business, and medicine.
