MIT has always been my dream but I feel I am not up to par with most other applicants due to low scores.

SATI: 2250 (800 M 800 W 650 R)
ACT: 33 (36 M 35 W 12 E)
SATII: 780 M2 770 CHEM 780 BIO ECO
WGPA: 4.408 (i don't know how people calculate UW GPA, but if its A+ = 4 A = 3.8 A- = 3.6 then I have a 3.78; if it's A = 4, B = 3 etc., I have a 3.91)
junior year: AP chem, AP calc AB, AP eng III, AP US hist, AP env sci, AP psych, AP gov
senior year: AP physics B, AP CS, AP BIO, AP stat, AP english IV, AP macro
RANK: 17/1044

The only things I feel I have going for me are that I am a siemens regional finalist and was recently (like last week) named a intel semifinalist. Other than that I don't have too many other science related extracurriculars.

I don’t think those are bad scores. They’re extremely impressive if you ask me. The Siemens and Intel awards are very prestigious - you will go a long way with them, regardless if you end up coming to MIT or not. Assuming you wrote good essays, I think you have a great shot. And don’t dwell on it if you don’t get in - your future shouldn’t be dictated by a few admission officers who spent an hour or two going over your entire life.

Now get out of College Confidential and don’t come back until March 14.

Don’t worry! I got in EA this year with grades much lower than yours (3.85 WGPA, 2080 SATI: 780 M 650 W 650 R, SATII: 740 Bio 710 M2). I also don’t have any science extracurriculars. You can totally get in! :)

Question (probably a stupid one): What are the Intel and Siemens competitions about and how difficult/prestigious are the various awards to get?
Thanks
