if i got waitlisted for northeastern would it mean that i have slim to none chances for the higher ranked schools?

did you consider northeastern a safety? If so that might have been your problem. I wouldn’t say you don’t have a chance northeastern probably just wasn’t thrilled if they thought you were using them as a safety. It might’ve been your ECs that caused the Waitlist because academically speaking you’re certainly qualified. Your chances at the other schools aren’t too high because they’re so competitive but I think you’ll get into at least one. Keep your head held high! You’ve done really well don’t let one no get to you you’ll end up somewhere great! Good luck

@hssenior27 thanks i really appreciate it :slight_smile:
but how do colleges even know if they are a safety school or not

@hssenior27 also for ecs I’m going to edit it because i am missing some things like different honor societies and ore clubs and such
i wrote this up in a hurry and forgot some lol

They probably looked at your stats and assumed you’d be seeking ivy level schools. I don’t necessarily think it’s an absolutely terrible sign you’ll probably get in to one of your other schools!

It’s called “Tufts syndrome,” where an applicant with extraordinary stats applies to a mediocre college. Said mediocre college knows the applicant will get admitted to some much better colleges, and so rejects the applicant to keep their own enrolment % higher.

That is true but I wouldn’t call northeastern a mediocre college it’s a very good school.

Yes of course, I’m just making a generalization. However compared to the Ivy League Northeastern isn’t fantastic.

Did you show interest? Because I applied with similar stats and was accepted early with merit money and honors program, and I think visiting made the difference for me.

In the early round at least, Northeastern was turning away or deferring applicants with 3.9s and 33s. It is becoming much more competitive.

@thetsaria tbh i don’t think I’m that qualified of a student to be deemed as such
i hope that is true tho

@whitespace this is true
northeastern is a very competitive school. maybe i was expecting too much ?

I feel that you suffered from Northeastern in “Tufts Syndrome”. However, your app isn’t strong enough to for the top tier of schools. You standarized test scores are great; well done! GPA is good too, but ECs are quite weak. You want clubs where you can stand out, and I haven’t seen that yet. NYU, Carnegie Mellon, and BC are colleges you have some chance of, the ones better might be a bit too hard. But then you might get accepted. Good luck!

@Chris817 I think it’s good to apply to a school if you like it and believe you think you have a chance at being admitted. Perhaps there were a ton of Eng applicants this year, or your essay/other subjective parts weren’t absolutely fantastic. Geography was also not in your favor.
If you don’t mind me asking, what was your non-superscored SAT score?

@whitespace i think around 2260-2280

@donut1638 i feel the same way. I’m definietly ivy league bound but i do feel as tho i was well qualified for acceptance to northeastern. would u mind chancing me for johns hopkins?, comes out in three days

I feel like you definitely have a chance, but don’t get your hopes up too high. You kinda seem like a typical applicant, you know?

Wow, I’m really surprised you were waitlisted. I think you are perfectly matched for Northeastern. You are def in their top 10% but someone has to be! I’d show some interest, send a letter to admissions letting them know its a top choice and then let the chips fall where they may. You will have good choices once those chips fall and if NU isn’t one of them, their loss.

I’m not saying you’re not qualified - but this is a strange attitude to take when Ivy League schools are so hard to get into, and there are many other amazing schools out there that could also offer you a good education (including NEU).

@whitespace oh crp! I’m so sorry! i meant to say I’m not definitely ivy league bound
wow that tustve sounded really cocky
